strop shoppe special edition w/ tallow

I have read a lot about strop shoppe soaps and wanted to give them a try. I am one of the fools who hates S&H so buy enough to cover it. My three tubs came in the other day, blacktie, teak, and rosemary mint, all with tallow. I tried the first two and seemed to get a bad rash that burned for a while. Only thing I can think of is the fragrance. I wanted to see if anyone else has had this problem? I have used quite a few soaps and never had an issue and do not consider my skin sensitive.

I'm hoping I'm missing something so I don't have to list them in the B/S/T

*they smell great, seem of excellent quality, and lather nicely.

To see if your having some type of reaction to the soap try lathering a small amount onto you forearm or your belly. Just make sure you follow the same process you do when you shave. If you build the lather on your face then do the same on the other parts. If you notice a skin reaction to these areas then you will know this is probably not the soap for you.

Many Strop Shoppe soaps do tend to be quite heavily scented, and can thus cause some reactions. Which is a shame, since performancewise I find them to be absolutely top-notch. Really the culprit is probably the fragrances, and there's not much you can do about that, unfortunately.

I have the black tie, no skin reaction. From what I can tell, it's also not really heavy on the fragrance. I was personally hoping it'd be more when I got it, in fact.

+1 to the lathering it on another area to see if it gets the same reaction. That at least helps you know for sure.

So I tried a quick experiment on both my belly and forearms. On the right side I did my full shave prep and lathered, on the left I just put a hot towel on and lathered. I did not put a razor on it but left it for 10 mins. Neither side showed any irritation. I am hopeful that it was something I did but we will see tomorrow.

We actually limit our most potent scents to 3% based on mass. We are looking into the MSDS sheets for the scents that tend to be most commonly found to irritate our customers skin, as well as working on formulating pure essential oil blends to replace those fragrance oils.

Sorry I missed your reply. I have been the soaps in a rotation still and it really isnt that bad. It is only the Teak and Black tie and more of a light burn or itch, but no irritation anymore. I doubt it would be an issue with many people and the soap still preforms greatly.

I got the Lemon Eucalyptus Essential Oil scent because I was scared of a reaction. Luckily I did not receive any and I have somewhat sensitive skin. The level of fragrance I found to be perfect amount, not too strong nor too light. I will be venturing out to other scents on my next order. I'd also like to point out that these soaps create easy, explosive lather. My favorite so far.

I hope that you are wrong since I just ordered the SE ROSEMARY/MINT w/Tallow and the SE BARBERSHOP w/Tallow!

Good! I find that that many soap and cream manufacturers
tend to oversaturate their mixes and you end up with SHAVING COLOGNES instead of shaving creams!

I noticed that the fragrance tends to fade over time, so maybe put it on the shelf for a few months and then go back and try it again.
