I prefer the D rings, they look sharp and finish the strop out nicely. The hold also feels more natural.

D-rings for me also

I've a couple of strops with handles, and I end up turning them upside down and hooking my thumb into the end that is meant to hang on the door.

I guess I am a little backwards sometimes

Interesting question. Before I started I thought the leather handle looked more comfortable, while at the same time I thought the D-Ring would probably work better, but I ended up with a no-handle design (filly) and have only used this style of strop. I have come to like the no-handle due to its simplicity and imagining that it gives me more feel and control. Also I believe these were called barber's handles, which sealed the deal for me, since they do a lot more shaves and must know best.

I voted for a leather handle for these reasons:
  • Grip.
  • Prevent possible cupping.
  • No bending of the leather at the end.
  • And I don't want a D-ring handle because when I let go of the strop, I don't want a loud metal banging sound against my cabinet or door.
