Straights

Ok so out of my own personal interest. You have a budget of £120 (capped) to buy a straight new/vintage and a strop........
so what do you get and from where?

I know that part I was just looking for what people would buy in budget?

I might visit Neil Miller website then. You should be able to get something below or on mark to what you want to spend

I know that feeling also that why I now only go out when its rocking other wise the the ear bending is for nothing when its a sh*t sail

My journey into straights started with larry over at www.WhippedDog.com who apart from supplied my first straight and strop was a huge help to this brit, then into the bst for an upgrade and now i am a antique shop regular and have scored well over a good dozen razors, for your price as mentioned you can get a decent strop and razor on the uk sites, a nice vintage or a new dovo and shop around for a new dovo as there are quite a few uk sites that sell these at reasonable prices at the moment though not all on shaving related sites, i can recommend a dovo strop as i now have one and is ideal for a newbie and again a fair price on these, read the reviews on here and thoughts of the wiser than me guys on straights as that is how i picked things up, good luck and let us know what you buy, you have a decent first budget with plenty of options.

Yeah the whole straight razor shave is of interest to me too although i've set a much lower budget than you and purchased mine over the weekend from larry over at www.WhippedDog.com, i figure why spend good money on a top kit only to discover i suck at straight shaving or can't commit to the technique. At least this way i get a good starter kit from a reliable vendor and can make a decision from their to upgrade or sell and stick with DE shaving.

Personally, i would buy a good but cheap strop from neil miller, you're likely to nick your first strop.

Then buy a cheap vintage like genco from ebay or a vendor and get it honed.

It doesn't have to be expensive to provide a decent shave, some of my cheapest razors, provide me with the best shave.

Once you've settled in and decided it's for you then look at the more expensive gear, you'll appreciate it more i know i did it totally backwards to this. :blushing:

No stick to the budget:thumbup1:

You should know by now, there are too many enablers of AD's here at B&B!

Sound advice here. My first strop is a 2nd hand TM Latigo...I'm glad it wasn't a full price one as I nicked it on about my 3rd lap! :blushing:
