I am glad I bought a real cheap strop to start off, after learning on it, and damaging it, I moved on knowing I damaged a cheap piece of kit.
I also bought a cheap strop to start and am still using it. While I intend to graduate to an expensive one some day, it's nice to use the basics. Some like to spend money from the start and that's ok, but easing into something is more my speed. When I started scuba diving 30 years ago, I bought the basics, learned to use them properly, then added only the necessary items I needed as my skills improved. Fortunately, you don't run out of air while shaving, you only lose a little blood!
