Straight razor it hurts like hell to shave my chin and mustache,

Hello gents,

My sideburns and cheeks go alright, beneath the chin goes allright. But it hurts like hell to shave my mustache and my chin, it really hurts and afterburns like hell, I used a de razor before and I am to do it but it feels like it's pulling the hair off.

What's going wrong? My shaving lather is good and works well because a DE razor slides trought my skin like butter. The man whom sold me the blade a barber from a barbershop whom I always bought from said it would be shaveready. Maybe it's not? I don't know how can I check, is it time for me to buy waterstones, which grit should I take.

Help me gents I don't want to give up and kick at the bucket now!

Your angle is probably off..keeping the edge flat on the first pass is key to a proper angle...if your razor needs a rehone I would be more than happy to do so...PM me if interested...tugging and pulling is a sign you need a rehone..and your lather is fine..

yeah, it's probably angle. the chin was the hardest for me too, but you'll get there if you keep to it. for the mustache, what helped me was to place the blade as high as I could on the upper lip, with the spine resting essentially on the tip of your nose. as you bring it down your lip, let the blade ride your nose, lessening the angle as you go. either that, or try to go under and beside your nose with a shallow angle. or just a XTG stroke from the corners of your mouth inward.

for the chin, you'll just have to pay very close attention to the angle as you go. I'd recommend a WTG pass or two. eventually as you get more control with the blade, you can go to a XTG pass. it took me months to get good and comfortable enough to go to a ATG pass.

You probably do live to far I'm from the Netherlands in Europe haha! But thanks I will have to work on my angle. Though I'm pretty sure I had a good angle, I have to start working on that.

Well...if no one else will offer to rehone it...and the tugging n pulling continuuing ill still rehone it if you cover shipping ;-)
