This early Greaves just came in the mail today. Had I known it had an etching, I'd have paid extra for this one. ..seems to think it knows me.
1820's-30's maybe? If you have any ideas about the history behind this, I'd love to hear it.

I'd say that they both seem to be in excellent condition. They need cleaning, polishing and honing, but that's about it.

I have been looking at Wackers for a long time now, this one on the bay caught me at a weak time.
I guess I will be too excited to sleep now!!
This straight razor business fairly messes with your bank balance.

A very fine razor. Those scales are made of micarta from the late 1800's. I'm afraid that they most often are unsalvageable.

These look completely salvageable to me.

I assume I should peen over the micarta (as opposed to washers or collars) to follow original design.

I had a twofer last night. Two new things in one shave.
A good friend of mine is a potter, and we had a brief discussion about shaving mugs. He brought this one over to me yesterday morning.
A few weeks ago I ask Sergej to make me a 6/8. It arrived yesterday afternoon.

Sergej’s edges give a new meaning to the term “shave ready”, they’re phenomenal!

Had my eye on a couple of Japanese razors and decided to pull the trigger on one. The following day I got a message from the seller stating Japan post are not accepting mail to Ireland and he would unfortunately have to cancel the sale.

After a few messages back and forth I found Japan post will send to the UK. I purchased the razor and got it sent to a forwarding facility in the UK for further shipping to Ireland.

I collected the package on Saturday but have only just finished honing it. I shall try a shave tomorrow, but I am yet to find a japanese straight I haven't liked.

It is a Pechika yasuki steel (hitashi) razor.
