Straight Razor Acquisition Thread

I made a little pouch for my razor :biggrin1:

Not a true “new acquisition” in the sense that I actually received it a few months ago, but I finally got around to completing the extensive restoration that I decided I’d do before using it for the first time. So it’s technically a new acquisition for me in that way.

Here she is…. A 8/8” Wade and Butcher FBU Notch Chopper with original horn scales, washers, and even it’s box! (The pins and washers you see here are new since I needed to disassemble the razor to restore with a 100% commitment. The new ones are identical to the old, and I had enough of them to get it finished up while looking 100% identical to how it looked in the mid 1800’s.)

Aside from pinning, this job included disassembling it, removing some rust, wet/dry and dremel progression to eliminate all scratches, dings, micro scratches, etc…, polishing blade to a number 8 mirror finish, cleaning and polishing the scales as far as I think it be possible, pinning, honing, and stropping.

A lot of time went into it, but the results make it all worth it. A beautiful example of one of the most iconic SR’d ever made.

Superb! That looks really excellent. :)

Got a ‘before shot’ to make me even more impressed than I am already...?

This was a BIG surprise. Found this on eBay for a RIDICULOUS deal. A bit under the one hundo mark, so I paid immediately. I think it got listed seconds before I saw it; after I completed checkout the “people watching in 24 hours” count jumped from 1 up to 9… 30 seconds.

Wasn’t really looking to buy anything but rather was killing time while waiting on something. Couldn’t walk away from this though, especially at the price.

Girls call me Makaluod
I have been questing after one of these straight razor for what seems like forever. I searched through all the shops in Mutchilba, Dimbulah and ever as far away as Petford. All to no avail.

Then, one day while browsing the internet, I discovered a small nondescript vendor deep within a far off and exotic land that listed not one but at least two units of my holy grail SR. I was able to eventually contact this vendor and at an exorbitant price was able to order two.

I then had to wait patiently, all the while hoping that I had not been scammed. Deliver took many weeks. Eventually my grail SRs arrived in Mareeba this morning. With great enthusiasm and not being able to wait any longer, I made the long ride to Mareeba and opened the package on the ride back home.

My grail SRs were exactly what I wanted. They where brand new, each in their own individual display sleeve and boxed in exquisitly detailed coffins.

Eat your heart out fellow SR connoisseurs!

Got these from the estate of grandmothers brother that passed. Old bricklayer that enjoyed to test me out by crushing my hand as i would shake his, then commenting on it. Felt pretty good to crush his as i got into my teens and started working in roofing.

Never seen razors in such good condition before, only on pictures here etc. They still have a pretty decent edge, and perhaps i dont even have to set the bevel. Minor oxidation in the joint and the EA Berg dont even have any gunk. Theres little to none spinewear, but one (bottom) is unmarked or has had it ground away. It has a nick just above where the stamps normally are so maybe it was never stamped and sold that way. But its just speculation.

I have been wanting a Dovo Master's for a long time. This version (stainless) came with a shoulderless tang which I really preferred over the carbon steel styles. Sadly they were not made but for a short while and hence, were a tad difficult to find, especially for a decent price. But....mine is on the way. Brand new. Trying to decide what stones will be used for the initial honing🤷‍♂️

I tried to buy one of these. They sent me the carbon steel version, which is just a pimped up version of their Best Quality.
The shoulderless stainless looks grate. 👌
Nice razor. The scales are grate. The balance is just right (for me at least)

I only have one Dovo Inox. It was not the easiest steel to work with.
The shapton glass hr stones worked really good with this steel.
Just pm me if you get into trouble with this one.
I did not think this steel could take a good edge. After some trials and errors I ended up with a 0.44 micron g7 edge. Here is the result 👍
