Straight Razor Acquisition Thread

Just picked up 3 that are badly in need of TLC from the Bay, as a project for myself.

A bit worried about the George Butler, won't know until it arrives and the surface rust has been cleaned off.
Also going to have to find some new scales for at least one of them.

I'm new to the restoration game, I can deal with some rust, repinning and honing. But I'm not setup for making scales - yet :001_cool:

Just arrived from @urbanlegend via BST...

Thiers-Issard 13/16”, 1937 Special Coiffure, half hollow and strop block. Sterilized her and put her through the pasted balsa progression tonight and will take her out for a spin tomorrow morning.

What did I buy? I think it's a Frederick Reynolds, Sheffield England. I have never seen a straight razor come in a metal case. Thank you for your help.

Okidoki,
I bought a total wreck. I looked at the pictures and the pictures and saw a Sheffield razor with very nice lines, no hone wear as far as I could see, and what was obviously a lot of corrosion but hopefully it wasn't too deep. I was wrong!

The razor was oh so beautiful, with pristine ebony scales but the deep pitting almost made me toss the razor. Then again it had been a very long time since I last restored a razor so I decided to give it a try. I hand sanded the razor with a progression of the grits: 100/150/180/240/400/600/800/1000/1200/1500/1800/2000. It took me many hours.

I a now the very proud owner of a very fine and hefty Sheffield razor made by S. Pearson&Co. If you look very carefully there are one or two small black dots left, but I didn't want to alter the shape of the razor.

:a24:Well, I did cut my thumb honing yesterday.
I hope to find time to hone five razors this week. I might cut myself just to prove that I am just as willing to spill my blood for our hobby as you are.
On another note: The Pearson razor really oozes quality and those ebony scales really are special. Back to making dinner.

I know, I know. I said I was putting together a "hodge-podge" 7-day set. And I did. Number 7, aka. "the last razor", a TI 1937 Special Coiffeur, came last week. I was loving life and quite pleased that I stopped at 7 as planned.

And then this Mk. 31 popped up on eBay for next to nothing ...

So now it's an 8-day hodge-podge set that includes a representative of the Swedish branch of straight razor lore.
