Straight for a white-wall around the ears?

In the past, barbers would end a haircut by using a straight to create a "white-wall (of skin)" around the top of the attachment of the ears. Are there people who do this for themselves, and if so how exactly (haven't encountered a video of such use yet)?

Hello,

I'm not sure how exactly it would blend without a distinctive line, but imagine you'd need some very fine clippers to continue the fade from the area that had been shaved to skin, up into the clipped hair.

I'd also suggest that going WTG with the straight would provide more latitude for blending into a fade.

I don't do this myself - I shave my scalp fully. Since discovering how to go ATG around my ears, I find this easier than WTG, particularly in the blind spot at the rear - I don't use 2 mirrors, and shaving away from the ear in all directions is less distressing

Hope that's of some help; hopefully a barber will be along soon to shed more light on this for you.

Luke
