Stove top hot chocolate recipie

Hello everyone. This being the holidays, I thought that I would share a small recipe. It is not mine, so I will not take credit for it. It came from the Hershey's Cocoa box. It is their recipe for hot chocolate that you make on the stove. Why am I doing this? It is the holidays and maybe making your own hot cocoa has not entered your mind or maybe we have simply become use to those packets. Trust me, this is much better. This seems to make 4 mugs of hot chocolate when it is all cooked up, so lets get to it.

1/2 cup sugar or Splenda
1/4 cup Hershey's cocoa
dash of salt
1/3 cup hot water

mix together in a pan on low to medium heat until it boils

stir in 4 cups of milk and heat until warm, do not boil

remove from heat and add 3/4 teaspoon of vanilla extract and stir

Now pour into cup and enjoy. I hope you all have a wonderful holiday.

This is what I've been doing for the last couple weeks:

8oz milk (whole of course). Put on medium heat until bubbles form around edges. Add 41g shaved chocolate, slowly while whisking. Pour into mug, add marshmallows (home made or the fancy ones). Done!

Williams Sonoma's hot chocolate (shavings) is really good, but pricey. Can grate a chocolate bar easily enough, though. Make sure you wash all the shaving soap out of the grater first!

Looks like a good recipe, but why not try other cocoas? Scharffen Berger makes wonderful cocoa, even if their chocolates aren't quite award winners. You might want to cut back the sugar to about 1/3 - 3/8 cup.

My preference is to use a really good bittersweet chocolate in whole milk and cut it with water to taste when done. The extra fat in milk can mask the more subtle chocolate flavors. Needless to say, you want less water, or none, with cocoa powder which is already low in fat.

Don't forget to whip up plenty of fresh cream to top it off.

I like to take either shaved chocolate or chocolate chips and melt them over a double boiler then add some hot heavy cream slowly. Add some cinnamon and some fresh chilis of choice then add hot milk. Incorporate till it is right thick consistency the n add a bit of salt. You then strain when you get it with just enough heat. I like to call it myan hot chocolate. You get the sweetness of the chocolate with cinnamon and a bit of heat lingers in back of the throat.
