Store bought BBQ sauce

We've been making our own for decades, but sometimes I get some store bought just to change up the pace. Over the years I've tried Heinz, Bull's-eye, Kraft, etc., but lately it's been Stubb's Original. SWMBO mistakenly picked up some Stubb's Sickly Sweet, I mean Sticky Sweet, awhile back and I didn't care for it.

She brought back three different kinds from Memphis but I didn't care much for that style either.

What do you guys pick up when you go the store bought route?

Stubb's Original and when I could find their mopping sauce, I bought it too.

Stubb's Original is also a good base for 'tweaking' to one's own special taste.

I'm not a fan of the sweet sauces.

I usually make it my self, but for "emergencies" there's usually a bottle of Stubb's in the fridge. Original I believe. And I like to tweak it too when I just don't have time to mix something more exotic.

Head Country. I’m not sure you can get it outside of Oklahoma.

I think I saw some at the local Texas Wallyworld, but if not I live about five miles from the Red River and SWMBO goes to Grant everyday as she manages the hotel at the casino. That's only a stone's trow from Hugo.

I need to go to Pryor before the winter weather sets in and close out a couple of bank accounts. I'm sure the Homeland there would have some.

I’m not sure about southern Oklahoma, but you can definitely find it in Pryor. Head Country was a BBQ place in Stillwater. When I get BBQ from Billy Sims BBQ, I use Head Country sauce.

I prefer a spicy sauce over a sweet sauce. Being in Kansas City, I have several KC store-bought barbeque sauces I like.
- Gates Original is my #1 favorite
- Arthur Bryants is #2

There's other barbeque restaurants besides the above two that are better than those, but that's a whole different thread!

Head Country...I have bought it in eastern Tennessee.
Williamson Bros. and Fox Bros. (both Georgia operations) are often found in the pantry here.

Gates is a go to for me, the wife likes KC Masterpiece, but when we go to St Louis we always stop by Sugar Fire Smoke house and pick up some of their Honey Sriracha.

The only one that comes close to what I make is: Captain Curt's. I have found it at a few grocery stores. It is worth trying if you can find it.

I always keep a bottle of Stubb's Original in the pantry, just in case.

You can get Head Country down here around Houston. I know many guys (including those who compete) that use it for one thing or another, even if they doctor it up a little.

My favorite, though, still is home made. It's too easy to do. My favorite is the smoked onion sauce from Smoke & Spice. I'll make about a quart of the stuff, keep some in the fridge and (even though it keeps about forever in the fridge) freeze the rest until I want it.

I follow up with Sweet Baby Rays. I don't find it to be overly sweet, despite the name. I know I've tried a couple of their other flavors, but the original to me is still the best. They weren't bad, but not memorable. Kraft I find absolutely awful and will never buy it again.

We ate Bullfrog BBQ sauce like it was going out of style when I was a kid in the Chicago area. I think it was just a local thing since it was made there. Now days we do the Sweet Baby Rays, also a Chicago brand.
