Stone identification help please

This antique stone was found at an antique store by yours truly. It has two grits, a gray side and a reddish brown side. I'm just wondering if you guys knew anything as to its likely classification and grit number. It's definitely smoother than 600 grit sandpaper, but I can't tell comparing to the 1500 paper. I don't want to waste my time and screw up what little sharp I have on my razors, so any information would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not cynical about desert.

Is the typo intentional?

Anyway - looks to be a barber hone. No way to tell it's 'grit', never saw one before.
Looks like it needs to be cleaned, lapped, possibly conditioned.

Yes, and your the first one to notice it in about 6 months of having it, I wanted to make it harder to google where the quote came from.
The stone definitely needs cleans and lapped, I just wondered if was going to e worth the effort.

Interesting.

Most b-hones aren't stellar performers and, IMO - most require a fair bit of technique to eek out a decent shaving edge.
I"m not familiar with yours, could be great, or fair, or something else.
I like the label, that side would be finer usually.
