Antique Hoosier
“Aircooled”
Ten years plus in as a member of Badger & Blade and I present my first "State of the Collection" as far as straight razors go. Brushes, hones, creams, soaps, aftershaves, and EDT's are a bit in flux.
Strops are solid with my original Tony Miller 3" Latigo which rarely sees time but it is quite sentimental and I would never let it go after over 9 years owning it. Secondly, my Kanayama #3 purchased close to 3 years ago gets 99% of any laps from razors these days. I often find myself placing more expensive Kanayama strops in my online carts but I have yet to pull the trigger because I truly am happy with the #3 and believe I've settled very well with it alone. As for any future strop purchases of any kind, doubtful.
I have sold off quite a few razors that were very dear to me to get to this point. My remaining ones are as follows:
Recently acquired partial 7 day set, 5 Joh. Engstrom from turn of the 20th Century Tiffany & Co. New York cased. I will over time seek out as close to original replacements for the two missing of the set.
Michael Hunter & Son Sheffield Wedge with British Light Infantry etched horn scales and original coffin. This was the third razor I ever purchased and it has been sold twice and traded once and then reacquired with several years between. I learned my lesson.
My Great Great Grandfather George Rook of Liverpool, England brought a Wade & Butcher on a steamship headed for America in 1858. I have it in my collection along with it's original coffin.
I am on a purchase hiatus for the foreseeable future with the exception of filling the two missing slots in the 7 day set. I am trying to imagine what would make me break that vow and nothing really comes to mind. I will live vicariously through my brothers of B&B and cheer them on as they unveil their razor goods.
Please feel free to respond with photos of your current SOTC. I would love to see them!
