What's new

Starting to build my collection.

Evening,

Being new to this forum, it's a lot to digest.

I have a DE coming in the mail, thanks to a member. I bought the Van Der Hagen Shaving Kit yesterday and purchased some soap samples from Sterling Soap tonight.

Next up is cologne...

I grew up with the typical scents of my generation. My teens was filled with mostly Nautica Sport, Tommy, Acqui Di Gio, and Cool Water. I always had a minimum of 4 scents to choose from.

When I went off to college, this stop due to attending a military college. Unless I was on a furlow or took a weekend leave, I didn't wear anything. When I did, it was Chrome after my roommate turned me in to it.

Post-college has been random single purchases. To name a few, Sexual Fresh, Gucci Guilty, and D & G Light Blue. Right now I have Thallium. It's probably one of the worst colognes I have ever purchased. I feel the scent does not last through my drive-in to the office, let alone a whole day.

I want to start building a collection of a few work/everyday scents, evening scents and some seasonal.

I figure I would start with work/everyday scents. I'm thinking either some fresh or sweet scents. Something too strong or too musky might be a bit aggressive for a contemporary work environment. But I'm open to anything. The objective is to rotate a few scents that would be noticeable but not overwhelming. Recently married, so not looking to attract but still want to have an unexpectedly refreshing presence.

So I'm looking for recommendations of scents to build my work/everyday collection. Going to try with ordering samples of your expert opinions.

Thank you!

A few of my go to work frags are:
Terre d' Hermes
Dior Homme/Dior Homme Intense
Aventus
Egoiste
A*Men
Green Irish Tweed
Allure Homme Sport
YSL L'Homme

A few of these might be a bit aggressive for office scents. I work for myself so it doesn't matter to me.

Creed Silver Mountain Water...... and pray that it lasts on your skin. When it does, it's one of the best fragrances. Not the best for the winter cold months..... but great spring, summer and early fall scent.

YSL L'Homme is a great place to start. One of the best "jack-of-all-trades" out there... especially for this time of year.

I agree with this statement. You could also try v&r spice bomb, versace eros, polo red, or since its getting to be fall/winter, polo double black. Perry Ellis night is good as well.

Agree with the above. Though be careful with Aventus. Just 2 sprays should do it. You might not be able to smell it an hour or two later but others will smell it.

Another one to add would be Pure Malt by Thierry Mugler, it has a boozy vibe to it then turns into this sweet gourmand. Perfect for the coming cold days. This one is pretty strong stuff too.

Azzaro Pour Homme is another good one. It is quite spicy, not sweet and good for any occasion.

Eav des Bavx by L'Occitane : Check this one out as well. Starts out spicy, then goes sweet. I enjoyed it so much that I went through half the bottle in no time.

Some suggestions for sweet colognes(some already mentioned above).
YSL L'Homme-mentioned above and a good place to start. Easy to find, Ive seen it at Target.
YSL LaNuit(this is sweet but might be better suited for evening...its good though)
Burberry Brit- Smells like a powdery Cocoa, a good winter scent.
Burberry London- Tobbaco, leather and sweet spices, This is one of my cold weather go to scents.
Eav des Bavx, Loccitane- An excellent scent that dries down to a warm vanilla. Still very masculine though, another one of my go to winter scents.
Guerlain's L'Instant de Guerlain- Great cocoa dry-down.
D&G- The One

Thank you my friends. Going to start and see what samples I can round-up at the mall. Then I'll order the rest at one of the decanter sites.

Another sweet one is Clinique Happy for Men.
Este Lauder Pleasures for Men is another of my go to scents.

A smile can give you unexpectedly refreshing presence. Here below are few scents that could help you grin in the office and noone should mind the way you smell. Au contraire

Czech & Speake Oxford & Cambridge
État Libre d'Orange Antiheros
J.C. Brossoeu Thé Brun
Lorenzo Villoresi Uomo
Nobile 1942 Vespri Esperidati
Maître Parfumeur et Gantier Fraîche Badiane
L'Artisan Parfumeur Fou d`Absinthe

Neither of these is sweet.
Very sweet can turn out to be not so good choice in the office in my experience.

Burberry London is definitely a great start for the colder months coming.

Sandalwood fragrances are also great for that season of the year.

My first parfume buy is favoring towards Creed's Virgin Island Water. I went to Neimen Marcus to experience the whole Creed collection. Walked out with samples of VIW and Imperial.

Get a bottle of Chanel Egoiste!
It's not easy to find discounted online but is my pick of most listed and the hardest to find imho

You have to include dior homme sport (original formulation) for spring and summer months. With the sharp ginger accord you could probably pull this off 9 months out of the year including cool not cold weather. Although reformulated, the original can still be found online without much markup.

Hope this helps,

Test wear them both. Virgin island Water is a great summer scent. It opens with magnificent lime note, but it won't last. You're then left with some coconut and a bit of a floral scent. I wouldn't classify it as "girly" but it's a bit more "sensitive guy" than some men would like.

Millesime imperial is another great scent that wears fairly lightly. I have longevity trouble with it. But when it's there, it's a killer scent.

Yes, I do usually wear a more "sensitive" scent. I will admit only to you, I wore Woman's Light Blue when it was first released, after receiving a few samples from my job (was in radio promotions). I didn't realize it was "womans" until a few weeks into wearing it, after fully reading the label.
