Starter Kits

Hey,

I want to straight razor shave. I have about $150, and I want to buy a kit. I am not sure exactly what I need to get started, but I believe that it is just a razor, strop, and shaving cream. I have read about some other kind of paste for the blade, but I don't know if that is necessary.

I found this: http://straightrazordesigns.com/ind...ducts_id=855:1b01ba7aa11be5a2f1f8f7a2f20ba7fe

It seems like a nice package, but I would prefer to spend around $100 if possible. I am willing to spend more for quality products (quality != luxury), however. Does anyone know of some good starter kits? I have looked around but it is hard to find a kit with everything, and I don't know very much about these items so I don't know if I am getting a good deal.

Thoughts?

Thanks

i think kenrup@ ruprazor was offering a strop and a razor (double arrow or a wapienica) at $75

the kit at srd is very nice - i think it's a step above the one at ruprazor.

and yes razor and strop are essential, the shaving cream/soap and brush are also quite important.

other than that i think another option would be a vintage kit from somebody with too many razors and strops. I sometimes do this, and others do it on occasion as well.
from your criteria it seems that'll be your best option, but of course i have a conflict of interest, so you shouldn't still consider the pros and cons.

I've been in contact with both Ambrose and Gugi, both could help you out a ton. They've certainly been a god-send for me!
