What's new

Starbucks Anniversary blend- why does it taste so much better than everything else ?

..that they serve?
It's amazingly palatable and not burnt to a crisp tasting like their other coffees. What is it?

It is amazing!

I usually have a "Clover" press Sumatra with my cigar.

The other day the woman behind the counter suggested I try the Anniversary Blend with my cigar.

I've been getting a thermos full of Anniversary blend all this week ... I like the taste, but find it has a too strong aftertaste. I drink a cup on my way to work, and usually have to brush my teeth to get the aftertaste out of my mouth. Same is true when I take my 15-minute break in the morning, my 30-minute lunch, and the afternoon break. I don't have to brush my teeth with Pike Place or Sumatra or Gold Coast.

I've been lucky on this new shift that I get there early enough that I can get a choice of coffee blends from them. I don't know why their Corporate HQ decided that they must only offer Pike Place after noontime. Not everyone's schedule runs on a 9-to-5 basis, and even for those that do, it would be nice to have the choice of variety readily available.

True, the baristas will brew up anything else on request, but why wait for it?

The Pikes Place is horrid. My office building sits above a Starbucks but there is Caribou coffee location directly across the street which is where I usually get my morning brew....they at least offer 2 different varieties everyday and several are very good.

I only have my coffee at Starbucks via the "Clover" press.

It makes a difference and the Anniversary Blend just stands out.

Fresh cup of coffee and a cigar.

I worked for Starbucks for nine years and I remember on their 25th anniversary is when they came out with that blend. It,s a blend of Indonesian and Aged Indonesian coffees. Aged coffee is a varietal coffee thats kept in it,s place of origin for a period of time (unroasted) the result is a coffee that has a lot of depth and earthiness. To drink an aged coffee unblended is not always a pleasant experience but used in a blend it can add that certain something special. The Xmas blend is a blend of LatinAmerican and aged Indonesian coffees. I prefer the Anniversary blend.

+1 Since Starbucks started pushing the Pikes Place I have gone elsewhere. You are right, it is horrible.

Mine offers blend of the week all day long
When I order, its "anything BUT pikes place"
I usually place my order the same way ... but I have to do it before noon.

Pike Place isn't bad ... but its so mild and bland that it seems like there's nothing there.

A Consumer Report article on Pike Place recommended NOT adding cream to it ... without the addition of dairy, it takes on some more dimension.

But when I fill up my thermos on the way to work, I add the cream to Pike Place to get more volume ... I pay them about $1.89 (with my Gold Card discount) and wind up with about 40oz of coffee.

Pray tell ... what cigars do you find go best with Starbucks coffee?

Although I haven't smoked one in a long, long time, I always thought that H. Upmann robustos were the perfect mate to a strong cup of coffee. Each was good on its own, but the two together brought out whole new dimensions in each other.

You get a choice of different blends over the pond? Here in the UK it's the burnt cack or nothing. My choice is nothing! At home I prefer lighter African coffes like Kenya and Yirgacheffe.

Interesting news report about Charbucks in Britain today. Apparently people find their shops boring and are going to other places so they are going to start opening shops under different names to hide their corporate image! Bit sneaky that. You could find yourself in a Charbucks by accident!

Charbucks new shops
