Stainless Steel Razor Thread

After acquiring my Weber PH Bulldog, my collection has been drastically thinning. Aside from my Futur, I plan on replacing all of my vintage Gillettes aside from the adjustables and the other pot metal pieces in my den. I recently acquired the iKon Slant and it's become one of, if not the, top razor in my rotation. I can't set it down!

The intentions of this thread are to post your experiences with stainless DE razors, your favorite one and why.

All feedback is welcome! Is there a club for this? It may be time!

I also wanted to get a list of all the SS razor options out there. I know of the IKons, Above The Tie, Weber and Traderes.

Thanks!
Bryan

I once had a Feather AS-D2 and there was just that one perfect angle (about 45*) where it would cut beautifully but above or below that angle and it wouldn't cut at all lol.

It was beyond my ability at the time so, regretfully, I sold it.

But now I've discovered the Ikon OSS which has the beauty of the Feather with a more 'standard' shave angle. Could be my next modern DE shaver.

I've owned or used almost all of them. The only ones left in my collection are:

Pils

Some may find the Pils heavy and unwieldy but it works well with my face.

Feather AS-D1

The Feather may be mild but it is a great shaver when coupled with a sharp blade.

Lux

The Lux is about as simple as a DE can get but it still gives a great shave.

Personally, I'm dying to try the Atlas R1 and H1. Aggressiveness is my cup of tea. The finish on those razors is near flawless and it has a lot great reviews.

The Cobra Classic is on the way as my turn in the tour has finally arrived :) Can't wait!

I just finished a couple of shaves with the new Shave Craft head coupled with a first generation Traderes handle and I love the way it shaves. Makes me wonder if there is a need to keep my other new chromed razors.

So far I've only tried the Atlas R1. The build quality is awesome. The shaves have been good, but I'm not totally blown away. I'm going to try the H1 plate instead and go from there. I also have the Ikon slant en route, so I can post on that soon. My goal is to have 1 razor, so it's just a matter of narrowing it down. Because I'll have only 1 razor, I'm not interested in a pot metal variety. Hopefully the slant or the H1 will give me a winner.

I want to narrow it down to 3-5 razors that I LOVE. So far, the iKon Slant and Weber PH bulldog both have permanent positions.

so I am considering an Ikon or Feather SS razor. THough not sure why. Very happy with my Merkur HD Long handle. I guess it is a combination fo whating to own "te best" and the deisre to ahve a razor that could live long enough to be an heirloom for my son etc...

Why for you all?

The Feather AS-D1 is on my short list of keepers. With a steady hand for me, it's the most comfortable shave around and a bit of a looker.

I love my ATT Titan H1, Ikon Slant, and Weber PH Bulldog. My favorite combo right now is the ATT H1 head and UFO Goliath handle. The Ikon Slant is a close second. I have a Feather AS-D2 but I'm not a big fan.

Currently on a long trip. My Weber has worked its way out of contention. I brought two razors, but my iKon works for me, best. I am definitely an OC guy, now. My next PIF will include the Weber PH. I love my iKon. Also have one of their blemished heads on the way. If I give in to RAD again, then either Tradere OC or the ATT, after some reviews. Leaning toward the Tradere...but my iKon is such a great shave...:confused1:drool::001_tt2:

My favorite stainless razor system is the only razor I use besides my '47 Aristocrat:

It consists of a Weber Bulldog handle, a Feather AS-D1 head and all three Ikon baseplates. The Ikon and Weber parts have been grinded to match the feel of the Feather parts. All parts have been replated in black chrome by Dave at www.restoredrazors.com to have a consistent look.

I use this system by starting with a fresh blade in the Feather head. As the blade mellows (after 3-4 shaves) I use the OSS ( half open half closed comb) baseplate with the Feather top cap and then the OC and finally the SB (closed comb).

In this way I can have comfortable shaves in spite of the blade mellowing. I shave every day and I have a BBS result every time with this system.

I love my ATT Titan, but personally i expected tighter tolerances from something machined in Stainless and produced on a small scale.

The design is 110% spot on, but its let down just a little by the finish quality.

Uneven bevels, oversized head compared to the base and too much play between the head and base.

Ive never heard of PILS before, but that thing looks like machined art!

Travis.

I have sold all of my razors and left with Weber PH. But I have also ordered the shavecraft 101 head.

Several times each week I will reach for my AS-D1. The quality is fantastic and the money I paid out at the start has been long forgotten behind the memory of countless great shaves!

The only stainless I own is the Weber, but I love it. What is the Shavecraft? How is it different from the Weber? This is the first I have heard of it.

I am loving this post!! Thanks again guys.

Eventually, once I sell off and then acquire my best performers, I plan on getting a black tinted metal finish on them... Just like ze boss.

Atlas H1 users: how smooth is this razor? How does it compare to the Weber PH and iSlamt? Is it noticeably less comfortable? I love aggressive razors but the 2011 R41 is overkill. It's design could be better - more comfortable while maintaining its efficiency.

Shavecraft is a new line by IKON, but I don't believe that it is stainless....hence it is cheaper.
