I was looking at St Charles Shave Soaps and was thinking about maybe trying it. I noticed they don't sell samples, so that makes me hesitant to commit to a whole tin. Does anyone have experience with this soap? If so, what scents are best?
Recently got her rose soap. Excellent. But as you start out, consider to get a variety of samples of the 'major' players so you can develop a frame of reference to judge the artisanals. Or, just enjoy experimenting. If hesitant about a full tin, you can sell the remainder pretty easily for close to the same final net cost as a sample.
This is probably the last of the major artisan soaps that I haven't tried. I've had great shaves from Mike's, MW, QCS, Strop Shoppe, Honeybee, and Mama Bear so far.
I have a great deal of SCS soaps. I have used it for more than a few years and continue to keep them in the rotation. They are one of my favorite lines, artisanal or otherwise. Pretty much pick a scent you favor and pull the trigger.
The New Spice is not my bag. It is on the sweet side with caramel, vanilla and maybe some tonka bean. Lots of guys like the scent. The Bay Rum with a Twist is a mild bay rum with a healthy dose of lime. Good stuff.
I have the Bay Rum w/ a Twist EDT and it is excellent - very well done bayrum with a top note of lime, I'd imagine the soap would be very close to this. I also have the Sandalwood and Very V EDT which are very well done colognes and again, I would imagine the soaps would be quite similar. I have used the New Spice soap and it lathers VERY well - even with hard water. One of the better latherer's I have tried (honestly). It is pretty gourmand in its scent, it reminds me of a toned down A*Men without the tar note. It is not really sweet but has a food-y feel to it in a chocolate/vanilla kind of way. I have not used the Dagger soap but I have a sample of it... I think the scent is nothing special. Overall, though I think SCS products are top notch.
SCS soaps are very good. They easily produce a nice, thick lather with little effort. I like her Rose Damascena, although it is probably her most expensive soap due to the rose oil used in it. As far as colognes, I really like her Bay Rum with a Twist.
