Sponge

I wanted to try out the sponge that Chimensch uses in his video. Looking online all I see are textured sponges  For those of you who have a sponge like he uses, can you tell me the brand and model? I saw some smooth sponges but I'm still skeptical.

I just use the sponges that come on a string that you use in the shower. I cut the string out so it doesn't get in the way.
The local supermarket had them on special the other day and I grabbed all that they had out on display which was about 10.

Try a search for "natural sponge" you should find a lot more choices and you will probably find what you want. Here is a good example.

Really? The kitchen sponges I have are a bit abrasive. I'm worried about using them on my razors.

No really - I was at Target recently and they had these el cheapo rectangular, basic sponges. Whey they're dry, they might seem a little scratchy, but not when wet.

Natural sponges have calcium carbonate and or silica crystals in them. Probably not a good thing to rub on your razor but they feel really good in the shower.

Heh, well let me check out what I have hidden in my closet and see how it works tomorrow. Hopefully it'll not feel too rough.

Go to a local home improvement store and look at the tile setting tools. Near grout materials, you should see big sponges without any abrasive/ textured finishes. They are used to clean up tile after grout is applied. Should be inexpensive, since tile guys go through them a lot.

Hope this helps.

^It sure does help! I'm going over there on the weekend anyway, so I'll check out what they have.

I use a regular sponge that I bought at the supermarket in the cleaning aisle. I started with thin sponges, purples in a pack of 4 for 99 cents. I ended up with a purple sink (too much dye in the sponges).

I now moved to a pale orange sponge that's 3/4" thick.

A sponge now?! As if I don't have enough shaving stuff taking up space in my bathroom.

Fine. I'll go get a sponge... grumble grumble...

South Pacific sponges are well known to be in every way superior at removing whiskery lather from a straight when compared to the comparable Atlantic sponges. The exception being, of course, the Bermuda Baxhall sponge, which is not only super absorbant, but also remarkably soft.

It just so happens that I have a fine selection of Baxhall sponges, available at reasonable prices. Don't be put off by the fact that the Baxhall looks exactly like a common kitchen sponge, one swipe on a Bermuda Baxhall, and you will truly enjoy knowing how the other half live.
