Split DE blade straights?

Yhea, I can't resist trying a straight razor, but I KNOW I don't have the time or skill to hone a regular straight.

Are there any suggestions here for a straight razor that uses split DE blades?

You can buy a real straight shave ready and never need to learn to hone, just strop - which is pretty easy.

The 'shavette' style straights are alright, but will never give you a proper straight shave. The feel, balance and everything is different.

I've not used either, but I've read reviews where people claimed to get as good a shave with a shavette as they did with a real straight.

+1

I'm with Dunny for that one. I used both and a shavette will give you an idea but it will never be as good as a real straight!

As mentionned, you could get it shave ready, use it with a strop. Whenever it gets dull, send it to someone who can hone it!

I cannot hone worth a crap.

I ruined about two straight razors before I just found a guy to do my honing for me. Look around, you can find a professional honer for $20 including shipping and that should last you about 6 months.

Shavettes do not give the same shave as a regular straight.

I would like to try one of these as well. I simply do not want to have to maintenance a straight razor, or pay for a good one!

From what I've seen, you can get one off the internet, but you might actually pay more with shipping than if you got it at a local beauty supply.
