What's new

Speick or Musgo?

I'm looking to try a new cream--my regulars are TOBS Almond & St. James and Proraso.

I've always been intrigued by Speick and Musgo.
As a starving student, I'm on a limited budget.

I'm sure I will try both down the road.
Which should be first up to the plate?

Thank you.

both are great...but the musgo contains lanolin, which is great unless you're prone to breakouts in which case it can cause problems.

the speick is killer. very affordable at around $6 a tube and very mild and pleasant. just be sure to use enough product (about 3/4 to 1'' for me), add enough water to get it glossy, and work the brush a bit longer so the cream can thicken and you're good to go.

one of my favorites.

Right, I forgot, I had a reaction to the Musgo cream - guess the lanolin.

I also had reactions when trying to use Musgo Real. It produces a great lather and I prefer the scent of Musgo Real over Speick, but the irritation after the shave turned me off. I like the scent so much that I might buy the Claus Porto soap. Speick is awesome too...I would recommend trying out both and seeing how they work for you. Check out samples of cream from The Shave Den's store. They provide a good option if you just want to check out certain products.

I would go with the Speick cream, lovely stuff!

I've used both. Speick by a mile.

While I liked the fragrance of Musgo, it just didn't work as well in the hard Dallas water as Speick does.

Thank you for all the replies.

Spieck it is!

If the Germans make shaving cream like they do cars and saftey razors then I should be in for a real treat.

I do have sensitive skin; it's best to be cautious and avoid Musgo.

Speick irritated my skin. Nice scent but not one of my top of any list. Musgo is nice and smells good. It lathers well but some have issues with it sticking to their brush but just use a little more water if you have that issue. From all the stuff Ive had and have, Musgo will always be in the lineup.

Speick by a mile, it lathers great, and smells awesome!!

I used Musgo just once, I found the scent to be very meeh, and not pleasing at all. There was no way I was going to suffer through an entire tube of it, when the scent was quite unpleasing.

I though the scent was wonderful. very fresh and invigorating. But it was the opposite with my Speick soap at first. I found the scent a little stale and off putting, but it has grown on my and now I enjoy it very much.

I would honestly try both. The Musgo cream I do sometimes have a little difficulty lathering properly, but it does provide a very good shave. The tallow based Speick soap also provides a great shave, and I have found that it lathers a little easier with stiffer brushes like boar.

Whichever you choose, I hope you enjoy it!

I have tried both and would give the edge to Speick by just a slight margin. Speick worked for me day in and day out, Musgo Real performance was similar but I found it just a tad more finicky when it came to lathering. Both are good stuff!

Sweet!
Thank you for all your help.

@Gruder: thank you for the compliment.

@blantyre: i hear you. My father, speaking in a thick Italian accent, always says: "you want ta buy a German car? You know whata happen when the car breaks down? you give the credit card to the mechanic and say 'have fun'!"

I'll order the Speick soon.
And then the old debate: which TOBS to try next....:biggrin1:

Bobtrumpet: uncanny! I was looking up TOBS creams today, and I decided on the Sandalwood.
Great minds think alike.:thumbup1:

i gotta chirp up for TOBS jeremyn street. it smells green, fresh and ferny, is formulated for sensitive skin, is paraben free and lathers like mad.

i like it better than the avocado now although i do think the avocado is a bit more moisturizing
