Speakeasy Acquisitions - 2013

Please share them here! I know that some of you have received some great new stuff over the holidays and for the new year.

Got a bottle of Buffalo Trace bourbon from my neighbor/partner in crime. Never heard of the stuff before and was pleasantly surprised, very smooth and easy drinking - great way to ring in the new year!

Bought a bottle of Laphroaig, and just for a goof, took them up on their offer to "own" a square foot of Islay. I fully intend to visit it someday, and plant a Aussie flag.

Good luck with that!

I was generously gifted a bottle of Middleton Very Rare - will save for a special occasion but so, so tempting.

Currently nipping from a bottle of The Macallan single malt 15 years, my general favourite.

Just before Christmas a client brought me a bottle of St. George Terroir Gin. Just got around to pouring a shot of it tonight, and it is quite an eye opener! Never been a straight gin guy, but it seems a waste to mix this with tonic. Maybe a very, very dry Martini would be nice.

My whisky collection just grew dramatically. I have acquired the following...

Duncan Taylor Auchroisk 10yr
Signatory Fettercairn 1995 (15 or 16 yr)
Dalmore 12yr
Gordon & MacPhail Highland Park 8yr
Clynelish 14yr

I recently finished my Compass Box Asyla and will likely finish my Artist's Blend this week. Now my cup and my cabinet overrunneth again.

Ardbeg Galileo
Berry Blue Hanger 6th release
Smiths of Angaston 12yo

I ended up getting three bottles of the last 'cause it really is very good, in very limited supply (rumor has it only 250-odd bottles stayed in Oz) and when it's gone, there will be no more. The other two were Wishlist items that were in danger of selling out. The budget has been well and truely blown and The The GF thinks I've gone mad. Ce la vie.

In trade for services rendered, IT Work, over the holiday season my brother got me a bottle of Glenlivet Nadurra which is excellent when served neat. http://www.whiskyadvocate.com/print_review_new.asp?ReviewID=359.

Nice! The year before last I got a bottle of single malt in thanks for working over the Christmas-New Year break so as not to interrupt a clients business (I love working for the Freemasons 'cause they understand a good quid pro quo). Nadurra is rather better the Glen Moray I got, however.

I've got one too! Whoever gets their first has to plant flags!

Just had a thought: if we convince them to put a few Aussie plots together we could claim them as Australian soil and set up a bond store on it. Then we could ship Laphroaig from there avoiding duty...

Further budget busting:

My local specialist retailer (Odd Whisky Co for anyone in Aus) had a surprise "members only" sale. I got a Glengoyne 12 yo cask strength and a bottle of Monkey Shoulder. It could have been so much worse financially, but while we were debating Tasmanian White Rye vs Tuthilltown New York Corn everything else sold out.

I should post some photos to liven this thread up...

Stopped by the local shop and picked up the following beers:
- Sierra Nevada Narwhal
- Great Lakes Alchemy Hour
- North Coast Barrel Aged Old Rasputin
- Dogfish Head 75 Minute IPA

Cragganmore Single Malt 12 year.
The Balvenie Single Malt DoubleWood 12 year.

I made the mistake of giving an uninitiated friend a dram of Cragganmore yesterday, and watched in horror as he drank it as a shot.
From now on I will stock some Bushmills for friends who don't appreciate Single Malts.

Picked up a bottle of Small's Dry American Gin (made in Oregon!) this week. I'm really enjoying it in G&Ts, but it's the only bottle of booze in the house. I should probably rectify that, really.
