May 2024 Gentlemanly Restraint Until Month End (GRUME)

Hello friends

Sunny start to the week here. In keeping with this week's SOTD theme, I chose local products that I haven't used in a long time. Palmindaya cream is the most used in Brazilian barbershops. It's cheap, foams easily and abundantly, but it contains parabens in its formula. That's why I avoid it. It’s matching aftershave is alcoholic but has an aroma that a friend of mine defines as that of an old man's sock...

The Gillette Platinum blade now sold in Brazil, is made in China and even though it is not very sharp, it is surprisingly smooth.

The other items in my shave today are well known, Greencult 2.0 plate II and Semogue SOC Mistura.

With us, Duke Ellington and John Coltrane.

Have a nice week and great shaves!

Razor: Yates Precision Stainless Winning
Blade: Feather (2nd use)
Brush: Omega 10810
Cream: ARKO Hydrate
Alum: Nice Cool (not pictured)
Aftershave: Intesa

Nothing I would consider a hidden gem, but the ARKO cream probably is a little underrated and gets less attention than the stick, but I think it's a quality cream. Second shave with the Feather in the Winning, had the same issue of needing multiple touch ups and getting a few weepers, so I broke out the alum block. Still nice and smooth in the end but I think not the combo for me.

This afternoon I am off for a two-week trip to Arizona so this is my last shave with all my home equipment. This was the 4th consecutive shave with my Henson AL I3 ++ and Feather blade. At first, the shave felt rough. I then realized I had not tightened the razor head as much as possible. Once I made that change everything became good again. The shave was close and smooth. Today’s brush used to be my travel brush: a Muhle Silvertip Fibre, the earliest version of the brush. The brush loads soap easily. I have used this soap for 23 days. The scent is gone but the performance is still there. Have a wonderful day.
