SOTD Monday 11/29

Most of my shave gear is in Reno, not really that much here in Arizona, so unfortunately no odd antique razors for this week. But, some of my gear might be considered less main stream:

Pre-shave: shower
Razor: Maxwell June twinned DE blade
Blade: Feather (4)
Cream: Proraso Red
Brush: Omega pro boar
Post-shave: cool rinse, alum, rinse and then Brookstone Sandalwood ASB

Have a fun week!

Razor: Leaf Twig
Blade: Derby Extra SS (6)
Brush: Yaqi Sagrada Familia
Soap: Mama Bear’s Sleigh Ride
Balm: Proraso White
Aftershave: Bootleggers Bay Rum

The closest I can come to the theme is that I didn’t post a picture of these items yesterday so they are “items we don‘t see every day.

Razor: RazoRock "Mamba 70"
Blade:
Bic "Chrome Platinum"
Pre: CeraVe "Moisturizing Bar"
Lather: Body Shop "Maca Root"
Post: GBS alum block
Balm: CeraVe "Moisturizing Lotion"
Frag: Lalique "Encre Noire"
Had three day's growth today,
so I was both surprised and
delighted at how well the
Mamba 70/Bic blade combo
scythed through that mess.

Kudos also to Body Shop's
"Maca Root" lather. Couldn't
have done it without you.

(Much better than shaving
with a piece of flint and all
that bear grease.)

Stay healthy,

Bill

Razor Blades and Bourbon…smoooooth
Today will be the start of my vintage blade experimentation in my ongoing shaving journey.
I haven’t shaved in three days, so I have a pretty good face full of stubble to deal with. I decided to go with an Old Hickory carbon blade from who knows when. It looked perfect out of the wrapper, but I decided to try out my never used DE Super Strop on it. In the end I don’t think it was necessary at all.
I was a bit nervous because so many naysayers had told me vintage carbon DE blades lose their edge over time and I would have a painfully horrid shave.
As I started shaving my cheeks I feared I had rounded the edge off because it just slid across my face like leather shoes on a wet ice rink. After feeling my face I found that my whiskers had magically been removed from my face. In fact I ended up having one of the smoothest shaves in quite some time. I’m talking ball bearing smooth. That’s how it felt, like shaving with ball bearings. I’m pretty sure that Paolo Barrasso lather also had something to do with it. Great stuff
The alcohol in the Clubman Pinaud aftershave barely registered any sensation on my face. That certainly speaks volumes when a blade gives you a BBS with almost Zero reaction to a splash.
Of course there was no need for my Bourbon Whisky Alum pencil.

Note: This proves that a vintage carbon blade improves after aging in a barrel for six years or more.

Not quite on my original weekly topic, but you don‘t see everything I used for today’s shave very often…

- Brush: M&F L7 26mm Finest Badger
- Razor: Wolfman WR2 1.35DC (not too many WRH3/7 handles out there!)
- Blade: Dorco Prime (1)
- Soap: A&E Which One’s Pink?
- Aftershave: A&E Which One’s Pink?
- Post Shave: Thayers Unscented, Hyaluronic Acid

@SgtCrppls was nice enough to send me this beautiful M&F and it is an amazing brush. Nice soft tips, great knot density and released lather nicely. Truly an excellent brush. 👍👍
