Merkur Classic w/Feather
Taylors Avocado (old)
Vulfix #403
Thayers Lavender Witch Hazel
C&E Nomad A/S

Best first pass ever. Super smooth. Wow is all I can say. Worst second pass ever. Ouch. I'm not sure I could go with a lighter touch and still keep the Feather on my face. Maybe the Feather and my face don't mix. Maybe it's the Feather-Merkur combination. I'll try the blade again in some of my new ebay scores once I get them cleaned up.

Having spent so much time with hard soaps and the 'topshelf' creams lately, I had forgotten just how superior a shave with Proraso is. This is the cream I'd take to the deserted island with me for sure.

Hello guys,

This is my first post to the board. Here's my SOTD, plus some observations.

Moss Scuttle
Proraso Pre/Post Cream
Taylors Eton College Cream
Rooney Small Genuine Silvertip
Merkur Long Handle Classic
U.S.Personna Blade-day 1
Thayers Rose W/H
Trumpers Coral S/F

Observation 1...I know we're all different, but I consistently get better shaves with my Merkurs (Vision, HD Classic, Long Handle Classic) than with my Gillettes (1962 Slim Adjustable, 1951 Superspeed) Maybe blade exposure, head geometry?

2..I think this is the finest of the shaving forums going. You gents are all so informative and knowledgable. I've been using DE's for about 2 months now, with great sucess, thanks in large part to B and B.

3..And to paraphrase Hank Williams, Jr., "If heaven ain't a lot like shavin',.I don't wanna go".

Thanks again,

Ernie

Welcome aboard, dj88onmc. That's quite a first post. You seem well equipped and well versed, even if I would have used the pre/post between the Thayer's and the Trumper's, rather than as a preshave. As for your 3 points-

1. We are all different. You couldn't pry my Merkurs (HD, LH, and slant) away from me, but I still get my best DE shave from a '49 ss. Part of the fun is finding that perfect razor/blade combo.

2. This is the best forum, hands down. The guys in here are amazing, as you'll soon find out.

3. I want to go to heaven, so I can steal God's razor.

Anything you need- just ask.

Welcome, Ernie! I think you'll find its a very friendly, helpful group of guys.

Wow! Nice rig. . .very, very impressive.

Me, too. My Vision is just a high quality instrument, and can "be" any kind of razor I want it to be. I like my FatBoy, but it just doesn't work as well--for me.

2. I think this is the finest of the shaving forums going. You gents are all so informative and knowledgable. I've been using DE's for about 2 months now, with great sucess, thanks in large part to B and B.

On behalf of everyone here, thanks. I would agree, without casting aspersions anywhere else. The size of B&B is just right--big enough that you get great advice and different perspectives, small enough that you get to "know" folks--in a virtual way, of course.

Again, welcome to the club!

THE BEST shave yet--I tried a more aggressive approach to blade buffing--considering I don't know what I'm doing re: blade buffing, its going pretty well.

I think I'm a visual learner when it comes to shaving--explanations don't seem to click with me--I really could use a video of someone blade buffing so I know that I'm doing it "right.":blushing:
