Carrying on with the Supply V2 but with the three dot plate today. Maiden voyage was with the Classic or two dot plate so I was anxious to see a difference. I will report that though it did shave a bit closer on the first pass WTG I really didn’t notice much. More on that in a bit.

Soap of the day Henri et Victoria Fall’s Lumberjack or just Lumberjack on the new packaging. Rainy morning today and so a little walk through the cedar forest seemed like a plan. Well the scent anyway.

Lovely three pass DFS/BBS. Only the second shave with the V2 and still need to figure out the angle. It is well built and enjoyable to use but as a dedicated DE user I am going to need a bit more time to dial it in.

Rating: 5 / 5

Thursday OCtober 24

So I decided to go "big" today. Pulled out my 1923 Big Fellow, used my largest brush, a 31mm M&F, and Stirling Deep Blue Sea A/S.

Bowl/Scuttle - GP12
Soap - La Savonniere du Moulin (A+ in my book)
Brush - M&F Arley Butterscotch
Blade - Gillette Platinum (8)
Razor - Gillette New Big Fellow 1923
Post Shave - OSMA Pierre alum, Stirling Deep Blue Sea A/S

Shave rating 5 of 5

The Big Fellow provided an excellent, 2 pass shave. The first pass WTG was smooth with a little blade feel, and fairly efficient - DFS. The second pass, XTG and again was a very smooth pass with no blade feel and and finished BBS. I haven't used this soap since the beginning of the month; it is my favorite, just ahead of MWF. With an almond sized chunk, this soap generated enough high lubricating lather for 6 passes if if I wanted them. I got a 2 pass, nick and weeper free shave. The alum was a little vocal on my neck area and on my upper lip. I finished off with the Stirling Deep Blue Sea A/S.

Overall, an excellent shave. Have a few more vintage OC razors to use before I break out my current OC razors for this last week of OCtober.

Happy OCtober and great shaves everyone.

Prep: Valobra Glycerlanolina soap,Antica Barbieria Colla Almond Oil Pre-Shave Cream
Brush: Omega Pro 48 Boar
Soap: Signature Soaps Valentia
Razor: Mergress XL (2)
Blade: NOS Personna P74 Med Prep (10)
Post: Thayers Cucumber Witch Hazel, Antica Barbieria Colla Almond Oil Balm
Scent: Portus Cale Black EdT

First shave with a Signature Soaps shaving soap. The soap was kindly PIF'd to me from a fellow wet shaver from the TSR Forum based in the UK. I should state for the record that I have absolutely no affiliation with the soap maker or any Vendor.

These soaps are not the NSS Signature Soaps that have been around for a few years; it seems they have been released in the last few months. The Maker's website states that he is based in Bolton. The soaps are very much vegan, with the exception of a goat milk soap designed for Eczema and Psoriasis sufferers. The website summarises the products as follows:
"My specialist range of luxurious handmade soaps, shower, bath and body care products are all handmade with the purest ingredients and are free of SLS, Parabens, and other commonly used nasties to provide you with a product that is gentle, mild, moisturising and conditions your skin. My products are made in small batches, in accordance with my Cosmetic Safety Assessments and fully meet all EU Regulations and Standards for the manufacture of cosmetic products."

So, to the shave. The soap is a croap, of similar texture to Declaration Grooming soaps. The Sandalwood and Vetiver notes of the scent are very much to my taste - very natural and dry, and nicely rounded out by the Bergamot. The soap lathers very easily, and can take a lot of water. If in doubt, keep adding, as it has excellent persistence. My Omega 48 was now engulfed in an overflowing bowl of shiny lather, and it was time to shave.

Now, to preface my thoughts, I should state that I have tried similar small batch Artisanal shaving soaps here is Australia such as Washpool Farm and Beauty and the Bees, and was not impressed with their performance, so I began this shave with some trepidation. This is not to say that we don't have brilliant artisan soaps here in Australia - Australian Private Reserve and Squadron Soaps for example are both superb, but the Signature soap seemed to have the same vibe as the former soaps I mention. I should also mention that >90% of my soaps are tallow-based, but I do have a soft spot for some veggie soaps such as ABC, MDC, and Saponificio Varesino.

Well, boy oh boy - was I in for a surprise with this shave! The lather was very slick, and in no time at all, I have a beautiful paint-like layer of lather covering my face and neck. The cushion and razor glide with this soap was excellent - so comfortable and easy to shave with. And the biggest surprise of all (being a vegan soap) - very good residual slickness. I rarely see this with non-tallow soaps.

Three very comfortable passes, and I was absolutely BBS. My previous two shaves had been with soaps that I rate very highly, and I had only achieved DFS+ with three passes, so I continued to be impressed by this soap. To cap things off, a nice post-shave feel. Maybe not quite as luxurious as Grooming Department or Tabula Rasa, but still very good.

Lather: Brion shave cream
Razor: Parker SR1 w/ Vincent Sigma blade
Post: Brion A/S Splash
First complete shave with the Sigma blade. It is definitely more forgiving than a standard DE blade.

The Fougere sure is a great scent, glad you liked it so well you bought a tub! And you can't go wrong with the performance of MdC. Great looking brush too!

Razor. Aristocrat

Blade. Nacet

Brush. C-MON clone. Looks to be from heritage collection. Not sure what knot it has. eBay said silvertip and says it's a FS brush. Heritage collection says they use 2 band in the C-MON clones. So who knows but felt nice sheds like a husky in Vegas in July though. Going to have to see if it keeps shedding.

Soap and AS. Long Rifle Soap Company 1776.

Weds OCtober 23

I've wanted to use my Cooper Monobilt and today was the day. I think I need to repair the spring that holds the blade; it's putting a little too much tension on the blade and I think is slightly bending the blade when the cap is closed. I need to see if there is an easy way to fix this.

Bowl/Scuttle - GP12
Soap - MWF (it's Weds)
Brush - ThatDarnRob
Blade - Gillette Platinum (7)
Razor - Cooper Monobilt
Post Shave - OSMA Pierre alum, Clubman Special Reserve

Shave rating 5 of 5

I haven't had this Cooper very long, about 3 months and this is my first time using it. Concerned about the piece of spring steel that holds the blade in place that it was bent slightly out of place by a prior owner. I need to figure out a way to adjust this as the spring very slightly warps the blade when the cap is closed. I just shave carefully on the one end of the razor; it gave me a great shave. The first pass WTG was smooth with a little blade feel, and fairly efficient - DFS. The second pass, XTG and again was a very smooth pass with no blade feel and and finished BBS. As usual, the MWF generated a great lubricating lather. I got a 2 pass, nick and weeper free shave. The alum was a little vocal on my neck area. I finished off with the Clubman SR A/S.

Overall, a really good shave. Going with some US made OC razors this week.

Happy OCtober and great shaves everyone.
