First shave with this brush, after which it bloomed considerably, with minimal shedding.
Eats a lot of soap but makes a great lather quickly. It’s definitely a keeper.

I realize I should probably keep shaving with my Rex Ambassador, but there are just so many razors, and not enough time!
In any case, my R41 spoke to me this morning. I switched the Bulldog handle for a Barber Pole handle, and the rest is history! Great two pass BBS on my face and a DFS for the noggin scrape with a minor weeper on the back of my head. Very pleased with the shave and the razor. I feel clean, smooth and refreshed, and ready for a great day!

SOTD 14 November 2019 (and Mail Call)

So I felt compelled to interrupt my tour through Stirling soap samples to take advantage of yesterday's mail call:

Photo Nov 13, 13 27 19.jpg

And therefore I did... and while I have every confidence a fifth consecutive new Stirling shave would have been excellent, I definitely enjoyed the pleasure of shaving with my new Murphy and McNeil acquisition!

Photo Nov 14, 08 12 55.jpg

Pre-shave: hot shower and hot towel
Razor: Merkur 34C HD
Blade: Parker Premium Platinum (#1)
Brush: Omega Pro 49
Bowl: Fine Accoutrements Ceramic Lather Bowl
Soap: Murphy and McNeil Bád Mór
Aftershave: Murphy and McNeil Bád Mór Splash (w/alcohol, no menthol)

The soap loaded very easily, as with other products of theirs - and a slick, protective lather was easily produced. The scent of both soap and aftershave is lovely. Lots of Allspice and clove up top, and it settles into a very nice, spicy and warm afterglow. I've just shaved an hour ago, so I can't comment on longevity, but it's a very nice scent that's definitely with me still. The post-shave face feel, too, is absolutely superb.

The only downside to this shave was the fact that I pulled a new Parker Premium Platinum out of a pack thrown in with a purchase a while ago... and I have to say that it might be the dullest blade I've ever shaved with. I did manage a fairly close shave, but with a lot of effort and one too many passes. I didn't suffer any nicks or cuts, but I honestly wonder with this blade if that's even within the realm of possibility. I may (repeat MAY) give the blade a second shot, but I doubt I'll be keeping these. It's really no wonder they run only about 30 cents a blade even in a 5-pack (and apparently a bundle of 100 will only set you back $10).

SOTD 15 November, 2019

Friday shave - and back to my Stirling samples! What an intriguing shave this was too - totally slick and protective lather as I always get from Stirling, but the scent... oh my the scent. My reaction to this one is gut-level visceral - it brings me immediately back to my youth, growing up in rural Washington state. While the soap and aftershave I used today are called "Texas on Fire", what I sensed right away was a combination of my own home, which we largely heated by a wood stove, and camping, which we often did in cedar and alder forests in and around the Cascade mountains. I really am transported back to the wood stove with cedar stacked beside it, and a warm fire burning within - and the same smells would linger after a campfire out in the woods. The birch tar, too, which is in this soap, definitely is reminiscent of the smell of alder sap...which makes sense, since alder is a tree in the birch family. At any rate, all of it together makes for a very special scent - and no doubt a unique addition to your den! The scent really is out of this world for me personally - but even without having the personal olfactory connections I do, I highly recommend that you at least try a sample of this wonderful soap and aftershave!
