Razor: Ever-Ready - Lather Catcher (1906) Ebony Handle Blade: Vintage Wedge Blade (1) Brush: FS - 28mm G4 Synthetic Pre-Shave: Innisfree - Jeju Volcanic Pore Cleansing Foam Lather: Squadron - Red Lead Aftershave: Fine - American Blend
Hey! I gave myself a big wedgie…and I kinda like it.
I seem to to be heading off in one of my tangents. I have my toe testing the wedge blade waters lately.
This was my first Ever-Ready wedgie. The shave was much like @RumpleBearskin had stated with his wedge shave. A pretty typical ASR shave with lots of audible feedback. These razors may be ornate, but they are still just light sheet metal, so a lot of vibration gets passed through. I had a nice close shave with the ER wedge, but my last two shaves with the Wilkinson Empire razor and wedge blade was a lot smoother in my opinion. I think part of it may be how solid the construction of it is, with no light sheet metal parts. Perhaps the solidness damps out all vibration which contributes to a smoother more efficient shave.
To be fair, I noticed the spring holding the blade against the stops in the ER was a little weak and allowed one side to push away. I shimmed the back of the blade with a piece of tooth-pic, but still not great. I also noticed some soldering on the spring tab. It looks like it was professionally done, perhaps a jeweller, but I’m not going to try to adjust it.
I have a Kampfe on the way, but it doesn’t have a blade, so I’ll try this one in it. I’m always doing comparisons.
Pre-shave: Truefit & Hill
Shave cream: Barrister & Mann, Seville
Brush: Maison Lambert 100% Silvertip Badger, Faux Horn
Razor: Timeless SS 0.68SB, Polished
Blade: Feather
Post shave: Jack Black
Result: DFS+, one of the best
Comments: An old favorite combination of razor and blade. Remains a winner for me. I am still working on getting a good lather with the Seville. I am getting there…slowly.
