Monday, 2/3:

20200203_100533.jpg

Razor - Razorock OLD TYPE
Blade - Astra SP (2 or 3)
Brush - Craving Shaving "Black Gold" 26mm Fan Fiction 2-band badger/synthetic hybrid
Soap - Oaken Lab Conservatory
A/S - Supply Arenella Coast

Oh my goodness. I'll start off with the brush before I talk about the soap, which was the star of this shave. The Fan Fiction knot did a great job whipping up the lather. It's quite firm and has a lot of scritch, more than I usually like for a face lather, but I'm told it breaks in and gets softer, so I look forward to getting there. This would be great in the bowl, too. It loaded really quickly, and made the lather in no time. Very nice.

Now, the soap. I don't know why Oaken Lab doesn't get more widespread love a la B&M or A&E, etc, because it might be the best soap base I've ever used. The lather I got was one of the densest, slickest, shiniest lathers I've ever had, hands down. It was easily as good as the best lathers I've gotten from the aforementioned, possibly better. It was actually hard to wash the slickness off my hands, and the residual between passes was ridiculous. It generates a fairly low structure lather, but it is so thick and creamy even at full hydration that there's a ton of cushion too. The post shave is also excellent; my face was soft and smooth afterwards. Between the smoothness of the Old Type, the Astra blade, and the glide of this soap, it was really remarkable how easily the razor moved over my skin. I can't recommend this soap enough. You couldn't ask for better.

How do you like the 1.05? What would you compare it to? I'm on the list and am torn between 1.05 and 1.15 (like a lot of other people).

I love it. To me, it is comparable to the Timeless SB .68 only smoother. I debated between the two but eventually went with the 1.05. I do a four-pass shave and thought the 1.05 would work better for me.

That's really helpful, thanks!
