What's new

Sony E-Reader

No.

But I say that about any e-reader.

Too many unresolved issues with any of the e-readers out there (price, DRM, durability, obsolescence, etc.).

I think you should get something that does a lot more than just ebooks. There's a lot of different readers coming on the market soon that will do quite a lot. There's a website I've been reading which shows various readers that are about to be released, or are already released. I'm anticipating an Asus eee reader that is supposed to be dual screen and cheap. Otherwise, I might by an ipod touch, even though the screen is smaller than I'd like for ebook reading.

My wife just did a search for an eBook reader and -- while her needs for such a device may differ from yours -- she chose a Nook over either the Sony eBook reader, the (as yet not shipping) Alex, or the Kindle.

I got a kindle as a gift. I would hesitate to buy it for myself, but it has multiple functions and suits my professional needs as well. I like it and its convenient. Would I buy for myself? Dunno, but the holidays are coming up put it on a wish list.

I would shell out the extra $60 for a Nook or Kindle. Dedicated online bookstores, FREE 3g internet access.

Personally I would get the Nook for a few reasons. But the extra $60 is worth it for the 3g internet alone IMO

I travel every week. I got a Kindle earlier this year. I have really like it. I like the convenience of downloading books. It is small so it takes up very little space in my briefcase. As the day wears on, I enlarge the font of the book so it is easier for me to read.

I realize it is an extavegance but for me it has been well worth it.

We do not have all of those downhere, but we do have the Sony's. I just ordered one (the same: pocket edition).

Tho I only have it for 2 days, I like it. Can read easily, also in the train, in my lazy chair or wherever. I can put books and docs I have to read / take with me on it. The screen is nice and reads easily. Can not speak for the ones we do not have here (Nook and Kindle), but downhere the Sony came out nr 1 (600) and 2 (300-pocket) in a test of 5 different brands/types. I like the pocket size, and do not need the extra's of the bigger version, so for me this is nr 1.
