What's new

Sometimes you just have to talk dirty to your soap.

So as many have posted here before, Mitchell's Wool Fat can be a harsh mistress. I, however, had always counted myself among the lucky ones who could whip up a delightful lather with it in a minute. Then it happened. It was really my fault but I tried to use my MWF with a scuttle and apparently pissed it off.

Let me tell you, hell hath no fury like the Fat's scorn. For about three shaves I was getting dry, thin lather and when I added water it would turn into wet, thin unprotective lather. I thought that the Fat had changed its mind about me.

After my third disastrous shave with MWF, I picked up the container I store it in and I stared at the cracked puck of soap. I said to it, out loud mind you, "If you don't work the next time, I'm gonna PIF you ya piece of s#!t!"

Well, today I busted out the Fat and put some warm water on it to soak while I took my shower. I also put my Semogue 620 in some water. After my shower, I rubbed on some of my homemade pre-shave oil and pinched the excess water out of my brush. Then I let the water drip off of my puck of MWF and started loading. I loaded upside down for a slow count til 90. I brushed a rather dry lather onto my face then dipped the boar tips into some warm water and BOOM, LATHER EXPLOSION! Another little dip in the water before each pass and I had 4 passes of slick, cushiony and wet lather!

Maybe my memory is failing me, but I think I was using the same method with the Fat all along. I think that the Fat is just an emotional soap and sometimes you have to talk dirty to it to see results.
