Something more "aggressive"

Hey! First post and thought I'd jump right in. Little history, I got sick of buying expensive blades and decided to get a nice DE. I'm old enough (51) that I actually started out using a SE razor when I started shaving so I was somewhat familiar with the process. So I ended up with a Merkur 30C that's really nice. Like the weight and it seems made well. But.... the one thing I'm not crazy about is the safety bars that protrude past the blade seem so far away from said blade that the angle needed to actually have the blade hit your skin is IMHO too much. I was wondering it there's a razor with less "overhang" than the 30C? I guess I've seen some posts here about aggressive razors but I really don't have a starting point other that the Merkur to compare and that's why I'm asking in relation to that razor. Thanks!

Welcome to B&B

If you enjoyed using SE razors why not go back to them. You can find a GEM or Ever Ready in almost new condition for $20 +/- and get yourself a 100 count carton of GEM stainless steel PTFE coated blades in the neighborhood of $20-25 +/- which will last you several years

If you have not already done so, stop into the Hall of Fame and tell everyone a little about yourself

Hiya Crawdad and a belated welcome! So to help you or drives ya' bats, check out this wiki:http://wiki.badgerandblade.com/Double-Edged_Safety_Razors_Ranked_by_Aggressiveness. Since being here, I've started to prefer more effective de shavers. OC's work for me and ymmv. I have an old style 1921 Gillette and a New Bostonian 1925. So to me they are more effective than my Aristocrat. Then comes blade choice etc. I hope the wiki helps. Also peruse through some of the older posts too. Anyway, enjoy!

If you want an aggressive vintage DE, the Super Adjustable might fit the bill. I have a FB, Slim, and SA. The SA cranked wide open provides the closest/most interesting shave.

Thanks for all the welcomes and good advice! turtle using a SE razor never really crossed my mind. I just knew DE were plentiful and could be had at a decent price. That's something to think about. I'm going to check out the wiki coolbus linked to and ponder. Thanks all for the suggestions!

Thanks for all the welcomes and good advice...

Hi crawdad62, welcome to B&B! Come on over to the Shave Clinic and Newbie Check-In forum and have a look around.:thumbup1: Also, when you get a chance, please head over to our Hall of Fame and tell us all a bit more about yourself. There are links in my signature to areas of B&B of special interest to beginning shavers--perhaps you might like to have a look at them. If you ever have questions or run into problems, don't hesitate to post them up. We're a welcoming and friendly group here, and there's always someone around to offer advice or lend a hand.

Enjoy your time here, happy shaving, and once again, WELCOME!!
