What's new

Something different with every shave challenge.

Shave #7

Brush: C&E Badger
Blade: Astra SP (6)
Razor: Tatara Masamune
Soap: C&as O&C
Post: Fine Bay Rum with a dash of Snakebite

I’m so lame for being excited over a 10 cent blade that is giving great shaves after 6 uses. 🤦‍♂️

Pleasant shave with the Rapira blades. These are smooth, sharp St. Petersberg-made razor blades.

Seeing this thread for the first time today. What a great idea for a shave challenge. My usual routine is to mix it up every day, but I joined a fixed shave group to use the same kit for a week at a time, which is teaching me a few things about my gear. I'm also a daily shaver, so I could see trying to shave daily with a change every day and no exact repetition for a year would be fun. Next year!

Not lame. It’s cheap entertainment.

Shave #8

Soap: Strop Shop Orange Blossom
Razor: Tatura Masamune
Blade: Astra SP (7)
Brush: C&E Badger
Post: Skin Bracer

Astra made it through the seventh shave, took more passes than I would like for a DFS. Blade was retired to the blade bank (old SG tobacco tin with a slit).

Stirling Soap Co. Synthetic 2-Band Green Stripe Handle Shaving Brush

I'm new to synthetics. This is a pleasure to use. It’s a little springy, but I’m leaning how I like to face lather it.

In the picture you can see the soap that I have for this trip. I’m about 1/4 the way threw what I started with. Looks like I will not finish it on this trip. But its been fun trying to remember what each scoop is.

The inside of the lid is where I smear some of the soap on to load the brush.

The Big Ben was pleasant compared to the previous two blades. It was nice to finally have a smooth, sharp blade again.

Shave #9

Razor: 1911 Gillette OC
Soap: Castle Forbes Lime
Brush: Omega 10777 boar
Blade: Bossman
Post: Fine Bay Rum

Shave was aggressive, but the 1911 is an aggressive razor. Bossman was smooth, with a little burn with the Fine. Will be interested to see how it lasts and how it feels in my other razors.

Side note: Bossman blades will be headed to the blade exchange next week!

Franken 12 ounce can scuttle
I don’t care for a cold shave. Just like I don’t enjoy a cold shower. I started missing my warm lather. Most of the time my first pass is warmed simply by warming the brush with tap water before loading. The second pass (if desired) is where the lather has had time to cool off.

On this trip I decided to do something about that. Yes, it did occurred to me while I was drinking a beer. 🍻 The koozie is filled about a quarter of the way up with warm tap water. Then the modified can is placed in it. After the first pass is applied the brush goes into the can. This keeps the lather on the brush warm.

The blade was terrible from the first stroke across my cheek. It wasn't sharp & it wasn't smooth. It was dull & rough! I seriously thought about binning the blade after just a few strokes but stuck it out & finished my one-pass shave with it.

Franken Shave soap. Stirling soap company Mountain Man bath bar soap. Mixed with Dove sensitive skin.

It’s a good way to try out a scent. The dove sensitive, is for the most part, scent free. The top two ingredients in Sterling soap companies shave soap, is tallow and stearic acid. Mixing the two gives a halfway decent shave soap for a fraction of the cost. Plus it opens the door to turning other bath soaps into shave soap.

Shave #10.5

After 24 hours I wasn’t happy with the stubble on my neck. So a quick shave was in order.

Soap: TOBS Sandlewood
Brush: C&E Badger
Razor: Windrose OC Slant
Blade: Bossman (3)
Post: Fine Latigo

Face lathered, didn’t really even work up much of a lather, just nice and slick.
Smoothed to my liking I’m 2 1/2 passes.
