Something better than Wahl Bay Rum

I've been using Wahl Bay Rum on occasion but I find the scent a bit too strong at times. Admittedly it's a cheap brand and I guess it does come down to personal taste. I've got a second unused bottle of it that I'll give to a friend of mine.

I've got a few other aftershaves including the Proraso splash, which is really nice. I've also been meaning to try Blue Stratos again as I used to buy it when I was younger.

Are there any other Bay Rum aftershaves I should try? Maybe with a scent that's less harsh? I'm in Melbourne Australia.

Thanks.

We had one exhaustive thread about a month ago where many were discussed. You may be able to pull it up with a seach for Bay Rum. However, that might bring a lot up.

Make sure to check out Michelsen's as well.

If you find Wahl too strong, I agree with malocchio that you might try Superior 70, which is very mild.

I notice Men'sBiz sell at least one Bay Rum but I haven't tried it.

Thats a Taylors of Bond St. number...gets good reviews but its $50, so it would want to be good.
If you particularly want to try something Aussie, theres a few things floating around

Burts Bees http://www.burtsbees.com.au/natural-products/gifts-it-s-a-boy-thing/bay-rum-gift-pack.html

David Craig http://www.epharmacy.com.au/product.asp?id=1031&pname=Bay+Rum+100ml+David+Craig

Honeybee http://www.organicbeautyworld.com.au/zensc/men’s-grooming-shaving-c-1_14_101.html

I have no idea what these are like though

Thanks for those links. I'll try them some time.

I tried the honeybee from organic beauty world but the sandalwood, not bay rum. The AS contain Witch Hazel which is excellent for the skin. I have no idea if that bay rum is more clovey or Rummy...

I had the Royall Bay Rum (http://www.fragrancex.com/products/_cid_cologne-am-lid_R-am-pid_1134M__products.html) and it's very clovey and nice. The All purpose lotion can be used as a cologne or AS...

The small bottle is very useful. If you are picking one up, I would recommend trying the other scents in the Royall range.

awww i just came here to post how much i love Wahl bay rum. The scent along with the pure ingredients make me think its a recipe from days gone by. For a bay rum to be better it will really have to really knock my socks off :) Keen to try others though, thanks for the suggestions in this thread.

I noticed the other day at Bullgoose shaving that Pashana sells what they call "American Bay Rum". I have not used it but I was thinking about buying some. Since Pashana is English, they may sell this in Australia?

Sadly, no.

The Superior 70 Bay Rum seems to have a very limited distribution in Walgreen's stores...mainly in some locations in Hispanic neighborhoods in Miami, FL.

If you're looking for a mild bay rum might I suggest Masters Bay Rum which may be found in just about any Sally Beauty Supply. Unlike Pinaud Bay Rum (which packs a whallop), Masters is subutle with an almost butterscotch aroma to it. Very pleasant. Unlike Pinaud, it contains glycerin.

Michelson's is another fantastic bay rum but dang, it's expensive.
