What's new

somebody sniped me on ebay..

last second wham! on a fat handle GEM Junior. man they should prevent stuff like this. I was waiting on it to pay up and wisecrack snipes me on the last second!:cursing:

I used to get frustrated too, but then I took on the philosophy of "if you cant beat em, join em"

Signed up at justsnipe.com and it has won me quite a few auctions, and it gives you 5 free snipes per week.

thanks.. you gotta do what you gotta do! and so I go engaging in the same tactics after this incident.:glare:

Well, if you ever need to make a bid while you're out, gixen.com is free and was successful for me the two times that I used it recently to bid on some auctions while I was AFK for a few hours. Usually, I'll just submit my max bid manually with about 5 seconds to go though (not that I'm a big E-bay user).

Well, there can be only one winner and there is no law that says it should be you.

If the other bidder had gone back and forth with you for a while there would *still* have been only one winner and it *still* might not have been you. The only thing we can know for (almost) certain is that whoever won would have paid more than what it actually went for.

Maybe you'll win the next one. To help keep down the price of whatever one you do win, learn how to use one of the proxy bidding services. I like https://esnipe.com/ but that is the only one I have used and there are others. Of course I still don't always win. Actually I often lose since there are often others willing to pay more than my max.

Don't blame the player, blame the game.
That's the way e-bay is set up, it just stupid to bid before the last 10-15 seconds.

What does 'sniping' mean in the context of ebay? A last second bid thing?

I usually put enough down at the start that if I win it, I will feel kind of queasy if it went to my limit. there have been a few times I've been rooting for somebody to make a last minute bid... :crying:

It only makes since though that they do that. It used to tick me off too but here's how I've come to see it: First, say they find a razor with 3 days left on it and they're willing to pay a $100 for it. So they then go ahead and put that in as their max bid. Over the next three days, they're going to have everyone run up what it would cost them just by "testing" how high they're willing to go. Now, say he waits. It's only going for $25 now. He throws that $100 bid in at the last second. Now, he gets it for possible $26 with no time for you to even throw in another "how high will he go" bid.

All in all, it all comes down to who was willing to pay more for something. I once put in a max bid of $60 and got it for $44. Another time I put in a max bid of $30 and that razor sold for over $70 at the last second. I just wasn't willing to put $70 and my max bid.

I've seen snipers lose too.

You lost by snipe because you only went so high on your final bid.

To prevent a snip, always add an extra $5 to your final high bid going into the last minute.

Hmm, I didn't even know they had snipe services. I thought you still had to sit there and actually do it yourself. Good to know! Nice of you to put that out there! BWA HA HA HA HA..... :a13:

This is pretty much how I go about it. I figure what I think is a fair price based on any evidence I have, if I really really want it I will throw down some extra and if it's just 'gee that would be nice to have', I put a little less on it. most of the time I feel pretty good about the outcome. Sometimes I'm mad I didn't throw more at it and other times I'm sick to my stomach because I threw too much and got it. I'm a sucker for bad deal BINs.

Better then Reno though.

Snip or otherwise, you put in the max your willing to pay and that's that. If someone snips you at the last moment they paid more than you are wiling to pay.

sniping someone bidding on last second thereby taking away your item.

Ahh and there's where you let it get to you....you have to remember that they didn't take YOUR item. It isn't yours, and because they were not looking for as good a deal as you were, it's now theirs.

It always use to burn me up too because I would take it personal, like they did that to me! Fact is,they just wanted it more.

Two things I've learned since I started looking for razors on ebay.

1. You WILL get a better deal on BST, you just have to wait.

2. On the bay, there WILL be another one, just as nice, come along, usually soon.
