Some Special Walnut

This piece of Walnut came from my Grandfather’s old Sawmill in Colorado. My Dad had been holding on to some chunks of it for many years.

This afternoon I threw it on the Lathe and went to town! I’m pretty happy with how it turned out. The handle shape allows for it to be comfortably held at the bottom, or at the top with the upper part of your fingers.

My Father did!

He is a very accomplished Wood turner. He’s been featured in Fine Woodworking magazine and has had his work on display at various museums around the country.

I do use CA inside the knot socket and on the top edge of the handle. It just makes it more waterproof. I think a heavy coat or 2 of polyurethane is fine for the outside of the handle.

do you use spray or do you apply by hand, or dip??
I found the best for me is spraying the finish on.
