Sold on the "Slant"

I was buying some cigars yesterday and deceided to replenish my Col. Conk soap supply and saw the Merkur 37C on a shelf. The dreaded slant razor. I had read both good reviews and horror stories so fate and payday tempted me so I bought it.

Used it this morning with some Conk Almond soap (first time for that too, a lovely scent) and got to work.

What a fantastic shave! I had a Derby blade in it and it just mowed down the stuble and had a near BBS after two passes. A little touch-up and some Clubman Bay Rum and I am ready to go to work smiling!

I did not know what I was missing. Now my other razors will be sad!

Welcome to the club. Use it before your technique is mastered and bad things could happen, but wait for just the right time and the reward is great.

The slant was my first DE. Almost turned me off from the start. Once my skin grew back, I bought a Futur, dialed it down and improved my technique. That was five years ago. This forum tempted me to pull out my slant give it another try. I love it and haven't looked back. Once you know what you are doing, the slant Rocks.

Congrats on your success with the Slant! I switched to it after the HD and various Techs and I have never looked back. Enjoy!

Can somebody please explain to me what the slant actually does, and how it does it (versus non-slanted razors)? I don't understand the point. Is the razor blade actually bent crooked when put into the razor? If so, why?

I THINK (and I don't have one) it holds the blade on an angle so when you pull down, it's more of a guillotine motion than all at once. Less blade contact with the hair equals more force on that specific hair.

'Course, when I shave with a regular DE, I hold it angled anyhow, so I'm not sure what would happen then.
