:biggrin1: Hey guys. I was wondering, if you have a spare thirty seconds today, could you check out my photo here:

http://www.cultureshock.net.au/cultureshots/the-new-wave/

I entered it in a local photographic competition and the winner is decided by how many people vote for each shot.

You don't have to provide any details or anything. Just check out my picture and, if you like it, click on the stars below.

If I win I get to take the lovely SWMBO to pet and feed the tame cheetah at the local zoo which is something she would love but has never been in my budget.

They encourage the contestants to get their "friends, family and social network" involved in the voting and I thought to myself, "hey, I know a bunch of guys in my social network who might help me out!"

Thanks chaps!

I don't understand sites like this. An image is rewarded on how many friends you have rather than how good it is?

What the hell, I voted 10/10 too so your wife can pet a cat.

If you don't like it, don't vote for it!!! :w00t:
I'm sure there are folks out there who will blindly vote for someone just because they are in that "social group", but my votes are not bought so easily!!

You have to be a wet shaver AND be a member of B&B to buy my votes.

Thanks guys, I'm glad you like the photo.

For those who are interested, it was taken on a 1930's Leica IIIa. The white dots are actually pinholes in the shutter! I quite like the effect that they have in this photo, though.

10/10. That is a beautiful pic!

Would you mind telling us a little more about the photo and how you decided on the composition and any other details you could share?

OK. Sure...

I guess there was not too much planning or anything that went into this shot. It was more one of those Cartier-Bresson "decisive moment" shots that they spoke about when I was in school.

I had recently been tinkering with a 1930's Leica which I had obtained cheap and decided to test it out. I wanted to test the resolving power on the lens and the effect that the worn (or absent) lens coating would have when using it as a portrait camera. Thought it might give some soft results that might look nice. I waited for an overcast day, loaded some B&W film, found my friend and we headed to the local museum which has some pretty crazy architecture and is an interesting place as a location.

This wave thing is actually a big sculpture which is usually covered by kids on their skateboards. When I saw these two children getting ready to make their run I just walked into position, adjusted my focus using estimation on distance, and shot one frame from the hip.

When I processed the shot I really liked the feeling of movement. I did a tiny little bit of photoshop just to burn in some detail and remove a couple of little distracting tire marks, etc. But the shot is pretty much how it looks on the neg.

Just one of those "right place, right time" shots, but I thought it would be appropriate for this competition as its location is a tourist spot and it is going to be quite different from any of the other entries.
