SOC boar or SOC 2012 Special Edition

My birthday is coming up and I plan on treating myself to a new Semogue brush.
It has come down to either a SOC boar or a SOC 2012 Special Edition.
I have the 1305 which is becoming my favorite brush. I want to try a new Semogue brush but I am having trouble deciding between these two. To those who have tried both, any suggestions?

I have owned all 3 of the SOC's, and have bought and sold 2 of the boars. I think of the 2, get the soc 2012 SE ainec.
i did a mini review/comparison of the mixed-knot semogues (perhaps my favorite Semogue knot) here

although the SE is more expensive, in this case it's worth it. In fact, I like it so much- I have a backup.

i felt that the soc boar was a little higher-lofted than I prefer for for lathering, which I'm sure others will disagree with.

I have all three of the SOC brushes and love them all. And for me, the mixed-hair SE is the best of them all - in fact, it's my favourite brush of all the ones I have. It's nicely firm, breaks in well as a boar does, and it has a bit of scritch but not too much (just right for me).

It also won't be around forever - you can get a SOC boar later :biggrin1:

I also have both the SOC and the SOC 2012 Special Edition. Like the others, I'd recommend the mixed boar / badger. It's a perfect size and it's become my favorite brush. As Oscroft said, you can always buy an SOC boar later but the Special Edition won't be around forever.

Thanks everyone! I was actually leaning towards the SE but was still going back and forth. So I'm glad to hear these responses. I'm going for the SE!! Thanks for the input.

Great news! It's a risk-free decision, since you could sell the SE here on on B/S/T pretty easily if you didn't like.

Mine did take a few weeks until the bristles really started to feel their softest. It's an excellent brush from the first lather, but it gets even better.

Another vote for the SE from someone who owns the three musketeers.
The knot is really, really good. The handle is also much nicer, heavier and slightly more comfortable to hold as the lines are a bit smoother.

i absolutely love the SOC boars, but boar /badger blends are great brushes too , i would get the SOC 2012 first just because its harder to find bit alot more money, personally i would mix it up , i have both SOC and the Omega mixed

Going for the Special Edition is a great shout , Kooze and i had a conversation regarding the Special Edition and its lack of conversation space , and he covers the probrable cause in another thread , that being said i dont own the boar SOC , but i do own the finest badger , 2 simpsons , omega , vulfix mixed , and 2 other best badgers , and they are all now wallflowers as i favour the Special Edition the most.
And the more i use it and break it in , it just gets better and better , post some pics once you have used it for a bit ,

I sure will! Thanks again everyone for the input. I am very excited to get. I got my shipping confirmation yesterday. Awaiting anxiously!
