What's new

Soaps you will never be without.

What shaving soaps do you always have on hand? It can be because of how they lather, because of the scent, because of fond memories, whatever, but what are your "must have" soaps? Explain the reasons for each. Go!

MWF

Even over my pricier soaps it's still the one that performs each time and has been in my den for years. I will never be without it.

Omega, Erasmic & Mama Bear's.
For me personally, these 3 get top marks across the board in terms of scent, lather & performance (closest of shaves).

Mama Bear's gets a special nod in my group listed because of her accurate, intoxicating & variety of scents she offers. I just had the pleasure of using her Lime & Cilantro shave soap minutes ago for tonight's shave :thumbup1:
Hinoki Wood is so complex I cant even begin to describe it. I leave the lid off this one so its beautiful scent fills the air in my bathroom.

X2 on the MWF. I love everything about it. The ceramic dish is a little pricey, but the refills are reasonable and a large size.

I've also come to love the Bigelow and Irisch Moos. I'll always have a tube and a stick handy.

These all deliver consistently excellent shaving experiences for me. Each has good cushion and glide:

L'Occitane Cade: pleasant if subtle scent
TOBS Sandalwood: good sandalwood scent
Tabac: absolutely amazing shave experience, and really nothing else like it

MWF/KWF

D.R. Harris Arlington (soap or cream)

Mama Bear's Ye Olde Barbershop shave soap. (this smell is all over my bathroom. Think almost a sweeter smelling maybe even buttery talcum powder.)

MWF-has a great clean smell and lasts a very long time
Speick-love the smell and it lathers up perfectly for me every time

Tabac--performance + price
Cade refill--performance, price + sentimental reasons.

There are a lot of great soaps out there, but these are the only two I stockpile.

MWF, D.R. Harris Arlington, and Mon Savon. All for the price, performance, and scent. MWF can sometimes be a pain to lather when you're in a hurry in the morning, but it's still worth it even when you mess up the lather. Also, for the winter, nothing feels better to my skin than MWF. Tabac in all seasons but spring just dries my face out like the Sahara.

Even though it's a cream, I will also say Godrej Menthol Mist. This, IMHO, is the best shaving product out there, not even just for it's insanely cheap cost.

GFT Violet - used it the morning my daughter was born.
Gold Dachs - I just love its subtle scent and lathering capabilities.
D.R. Harris Arlington - for its classy properties.

MWF, it's the soap that I like it after a lot of shaves to learn to use it in order to obtain the best perfomance, today it continues giving me the best lather for my shaves.

Williams: because a beautiful history in B&B, I have a puck that is a gift from Topgumby, and I got lather at 2nd attemp, it's a very popular american soap, that is not sold in Spain, for me it's almost "exotic" , it's like an old dog who is not a nice dog, not all the guys love him but he gives the best of himself when you take some care about him....

La Toja stick,....is the first soap I've used, my father used it, my grandfather too, it's the most popular soap in Spain, but it works well, and the scent is nice, different than other soaps

NOTE: I like a lot of soaps, I think that is a very personal choice, everybody is right in that, and I like to have options more than to have a soap preferred

I don't know about never. If something better comes along, it'll do. For now, I can live with either of these.

Art of Shaving gives the best cushion of any soap I've tried.

Czech & Speake (Oxford & Cambridge or #88) has a great balance between slickness and cushion and scent.

There's also a third soap on my shelf, the rest being in a nearby closet. It's Mitchell's Wool Fat. If the others go palm, this would be my fall back.

Palmolive (EU) stick: the revelation of the year (I can get one for .99€)! And of course Tabac stick.

Regarding the Proraso green soap, it works really great, but the sent is somehow...not my cup of tea.

ARKO - Because I love the scent, the price, the performance, and of course the suave dude on the label.

Speick - Love everything about this stuff. Still on the first stick I ever bought too.

Provence Sante Verlain - Awesome stuff!

MWF - The lather and the moisturizing.

Valobra Almond - Another all-round performer. I'm a sucker for the scent for sure.

Valobra stick: It may have the best lather/price ratio out there.

Gold-Dachs: Perhaps the best veggie soap I've tried.

AoS Lavender: Latheriffic
