Soap VS Cream?

I am new to this whole thing and am loving every minute of it ( I just have tons of questions!). I started off with a soap, the Art of Shaving Sandalwood to be precise and I am loving it! Not to smell for a guy but still smells good, and I have been shaving great with it!

Now that I havae my first soap, what the difference between it and the creams?

Not a lot to be honest. Creams are softer (obviously!) and require less work to lather, but they both do the same job. I use both soaps and creams and the performance between the two is much the same.

Amother vote for "not a lot of difference".

you can face lather soaps and cream. You can bowl lather soaps and cream.

Creams seem to lather faster/easier than soaps (depending on your water).

If you are located in the US I would suggest that you use the KMF locator.

Stick your zip code into the Kiss My Face store locator to find a retailer near you and grab a tube ($5) or pump bottle ($8) of any scent.

These are amazing creams and one of the easiest to lather. They are sold as "brushless" but stick a brush to it and you will have a lava flow of slick, luxurious, lather to use.

In addition to the excellent Kiss My Face creams, if you live near Rite Aid drug stores you can easily pickup, an also excellent Real Shaving Company (moisturizing) Shave Cream. (be sure to pick up the shave cream and not the identically packaged After Shave Balm (also excellent).

Either cream should set you back for the princely sum of $5 / tube.

Welcome to B&B! I use soaps, creams, and croaps. It is really all a matter of personal preference. You may want to head over to the vendor section and check out Gary's Sample Shop. That way you can try several different things without having to commit to a big purchase.

The main advantage of creams is that they are far easier to generate a good lather with. With soaps, it just takes a little practice on loading your brush with a sufficient amoung of product and then adding the optimal amount of water. With good quality creams all that is usually required is to lightly dip the brush into the cream in order to load sufficient product on the brush. Adding water is done slowly also, i.e., drops at a time. However, IMHO, creams are not as finicky as soaps about the precise amount of water added in order to get a good lather.

I have both and love using both. I would suggest the Red Proraso (~$11 USD) (since you like sandalwood), Nancy Boy ($19 USD) (kind of coco-nutty) or Simpsons Luxury Cream (~$25 USD)(unscented).

Enjoy young feller.

With my well water I found creams easier to lather early on. These days I use more soaps, but still keep some cream around for change of pace.

Perso I m using both but I do not know why, both using the same components, I have slicker lather, shave, with creams?
What am I doing wrong with the soaps...?

If you do a lot of travelling by air in the United States you will find soaps easier to get past the TSA. Creams have to follow the same standards as liquids.

i have used many of both , and i have come to the decision thats Soaps , are better for me , they lather and stay in that form longer, i have 4 soaps and 4 creams, and when the creams are gone my need for creams will cease---------- soap just plain lathers slicker for me- my soaps are E&C pucks (sienna, nomad, sandalwood) Arko, razorock cream/soap, and Luvwick lanolin soap
