Soap ONLY guys?

Any one else out there who uses ONLY soaps? I am not asking for soap vs. cream opinions. Just simply if there's any other out there like me! I ONLY use soaps! I think because I'm slightly OCD and because I only face lather as well. Sure you can face lather a cream, but where's the fun in that!? I have used creams before, but I soon gravitated to the soaps and thinned out my creams as quick as I could. I am alone in this weird obsession?

I have actually never used a cream, except for the canned goo before I started wet shaving. I take that back, I think I have a tub of TOBS cream that has hardened into a croap that I maybe used back in 2011.

Now half as wise
Almost. Like you I started out using both, but gravitated to soaps, especially with the straight. I have only 0ne cream left in my possession, a 3/4 tube of laToya. Since I'm 3017ing my inventory, I will probalby get around to using it, but don't plan to buy any more creams.

Im still a newb but I use soaps exclusively for now. Soap seems more old school than creams and add much to the whole expereince for me. Having just said that, I have 3 samples of TOBS from Garry waiting for me to try.

I got moves like Jagger
I have a tube of Proraso sandalwood and just finishing a tub of TOBS sandalwood. What can I say? I like sandalwood.....and rose, and almond and etc etc etc :biggrin1:
Once those are gone, I MIGHT pick up some Rose of Bulgaria cream (but how I wish it came as a soap!!) but beyond that, I'm a soap-y kind of guy. Check my wiki page if you don't believe me. :tongue_sm

Hey OP, I'm a native Texan myself and I'm also stationed in Florida! What are the odds, right?

Anyway, I currently use both creams and soaps but I think I might become a soap only guy as well. I love building a thick and rih lather in a bowl with creams but something about face lathering soaps just appeals to me more. I have face lathered with creams in the past and never had any issues but it seemed to be a little nice when I lathered in a bowl.

I couldn't agree more! Seems like its not a full experience when you don't use a bowl when lathering creams. Sure it only adds a minute or two lathering, and then cleaning out the bowl after the shave. I just love the simplicity of no bowl, and face lathering. Plus if I stick to using only soaps that narrows down a whole crapload of products I "need" to own and try!

Soaps also seem more "traditional" to me, and I'm all about old-school.

I'm a soap guy and agree they seem more traditional. Honestly have never tried a cream. Closest to a cream I have come is Proraso green which is more of a croap than a cream.

The idea of squeazing some goo from a tube and making lather from it just seems kind of meh to me.

I only use soaps. Creams gradually fell out of my rotation because they weren't slick enough for me (I now use straight razors exclusively).

Have not been into DE shaving long but it has just been soaps so far for me, and I am really enjoying them!

What about creams from tubs? TOBS does make a fine tub of cream, especially avocado!

I definitely prefer soaps. A good soap will provide a great lather, and last much longer, providing much more bang for your buck.

That said, I have used TOBS cream in the past, and can definitely see myself buying more in the future. I also have a few tubes of Proraso green around, because it lathers great, and the menthol feels great, especially in summer.

I am almost in this exact same boat. Between what I have learned I need for good lather when using a straight and what I have learned while in the 3017 thread, I doubt I will ever buy a cream again. Right now I have 16 soaps lined up for use and have no desire to add a cream to the mix.

I'm assuming that we count soft soaps, like Italian soaps or some of the new artisan soaps.

I'm a soap only guy (in fact only two soaps - MWF and MDC), simply because I''ve got used to using soaps and couldnt be bothered to switch between that and creams. Years ago, I originally started out using creams though and just got out of the habit.

I'm getting great performance with my current choice, so I have no urge to change or swap out.
