Soap Newbie

I've never tried soap yet, but have used almost the entire TOBS cream collection. I really enjoy the scents of Jermyn, Lavendar, and Mr. Taylor are the soaps the same scent or are there any similar soaps.
Thanks

I would opt for DR Harris soaps long before TOBS. (TOBS soaps are not nearly as good as the creams.)

Harris makes a good lavender, I think. T&H Luxury soap is kind of a mix between lavender and Mr. Taylor (mostly lavender, a bit of Mister.)

I love TOBS Sandalwood cream, but was very disappointed in the soap. I highly recommend the AoS Lavender, Sandalwood or unscented. IMO, they shave as well as any soap on the market, are among the easiest to lather, and tallow is the first ingredient!! Admittedly, they are a little pricey, but they last a long time so I think they are worth the cost. If you don't want tallow, another soap I would recommend is L'Occitane CADE. It is the only non-tallow soap I use and it is absolutely glorious in every respect. It also costs only $10 for the puck of soap. The dedicated aluminum bowl costs substantially more, although I've heard it was on sale very cheap recently.

Like the man said -- you've got to buy and try. No one can tell you which soap will work best for you; you have to determine it empirically.

Andy, you linked to the scuttle soap. There's nothing wrong with it, but a newbie might not also realize T&H makes a full-size shaving soap, available both in a wooden bowl and as a refill, both of which are also available on that site. I have to say, though, if T&H were my go-to soap, I think I'd like using it in that scuttle. Pretty classy. Bowman doesn't appear to carry it, but T&H's own site does. It's pretty spendy, though. I wonder how well it works.
