Soap Fragrance

Hello, everyone! I'm new to wetshaving and have a few questions. I recently bought an Art of Shaving Sandalwood starter kit and loved the smell of it. Thinking that every other product that advertised sandalwood would smell the same I bought the Geo F. Trumper Sandalwood Hard Shave soap. When I opened it up I was so thrilled and went to give it a sniff but was disappointed because it smelled, well, like soap. I got over it and figured that maybe once I actually used it the smell would be released and then got excited about my next shave.

A few days later I finally tried it only to be disappointed again because there was no great smell. So I now want to go ahead and purchase another soap to replace it, again looking for sandalwood, but I really do want something with a strong fragrance, can anyone recommend anything? I found these products but was wondering if anyone has had any experience with them and if they give off a good smell or not:

Geo F. Trumper Sandalwood Skin Food - Would this even count as soap? Or would it be more of an oil?

The Art of Shaving Shaving Soap Refill - Already have the wooden bowl, just need the soap.

Taylor of Old Bond Street Sandalwood Shaving Cream Bowl - would I lather this on my face?

Welcome to B&B.

Skin food is usually used after the shave. It is not soap or cream. AOS Sandalwood is the one you're looking for. Taylor of Old Bond Sandalwood is a cream not a soap. It is smells more synthetic than AOS.

I would recommend Dr Harris Marloborough and Windsor shaving soaps. Also Tabac shaving soap. These can be purchased at westcoastshaving, bullgooseshaving or royal shave.

Another favorite soap is Mike's natural shaving soap. Great performance and great scents. They can purchased from his site.

Sandalwoods definitely vary quite a bit and they're a common topic here so don't overlook prior discussions.

If you like the scent of AoS sandalwood then go with AoS sandalwood.

"Good" is highly subjective on any topic. Scent is a very subjective matter. You can't just randomly poll people on whether particular scents are "good" or not. For any scent you'll find those that think the scent is good and those that do not. What you need to do is to try to find scents that you like. Unfortunately, that's easier said than done but at least we have a starting point knowing that you like AoS. It sound like you don't care for GFT which is also helpful.

You could. You could also bowl lather. Your call. TOBS sandalwood does not smell anything like AoS's.

I would recommend Dr Harris Marloborough and Windsor shaving soaps.
Neither are sandalwood though. Marlborough is closer to cedar IMO.
