Just got a King 1k stone today. Everything on the box is in Japanese and there are no instructions. Is it necessary to soak these like a Norton, or will just wetting them like a coticule do the job??

Go ahead and soak you stone and you can leave it in the water if you want. I just keep mine in 365 days a year but if you don't use it that often you can soak yours until the bubbles stop coming out of the stone, about 10 minutes. good luck, Alx

I found that the King 1k is a "thirsty" stone, so yeah like Alex said, go ahead and soak it... 
Soak it - takes a few days to dry out; I used to leave mine on wood blocks over a paper towel to dry

Put some bleach in the bucket to keep the water from getting rank
