I think my favorite razor is the New Standard by far, but I have some old types coming in so the Standard is going to have some competition :thumbup1:

I am a big fan of 3 piece razors. I don't see the design of the TTO razors as being superior, or all that beneficial, although the vintage Gillettte's are wonderful razors in their own right.

From a safety standpoint, you have to be a total moron to consistently cut yourself when changing a DE blade in a 3 piece razor.

In fact, I am not sure the TTO razor was invented by Gillette for safety, so much as it was an attempt at competing with the Schick Injector, who could claim their razor could be loaded without ever touching the edges of the blade.

Gillette in turn invented the TTO razor, so they too could claim their razor could be loaded without touching the blade.

Since the style of blade container that allows the blade to slide out, and directly onto the razor bed is fairly rare these days, the initial reasoning behind the TTO mechanism has been totally lost.

The 3 piece open comb New instantly became my favorite after the first use over the TTO's, tech's and adjustables. I like it so much I got a second one. But today I used a Krona like pictured above for the first and was blown away...

I'm currently infatuatuated with the DE89L, so I gave the three piece safety bar some love in the poll. That being said, I love my 1912, Fatboy and Aristocrat, too. But nothing gives me as good a shave as the DE89L.

Of course the TTO wasn't invented for safety, since the feature of loading a blade without touching it wasn't introduced until 1948, and the TTO razor existed before that. The TTO was created for convenience, and the ability to load a blade without touching it was a further extension of that convenience.

The blade case that allows the blade to slide out right onto the razor bed is sold in almost every grocery, drug, and dollar store in America, thanks to ASR. :001_smile

Currently a 3-piece bar is best for me, but that could be because I do not have enough practice with the rest.

I voted for a TTO Open comb because IMO these are the nicest looking razors. I don't own a #15 but I do have a 1930's Aristocrat with all its plating, and it is by far my favourite razor from an aesthetic perspective. It is not, however, my favourite shaver. Try as I might , the 30's 'Crat has never given me as good a shave as my #16 or Slant.

I am well aware of the ASR branded blades (and the re-branded store brands), however, just about every other brand (except for some of the Gillette's, and the re-branded Dorcos sold under private label at Family Dollar) no longer uses the slide out blade cartridge, hence this design is not as popular as it once was.

Gillette may have introduced the TTO as a matter of convenience, but it doesn't take that much longer to change the blade in a 3 piece razor.

For me, my Gillette New is by far the nicest looking razor I own, but my go to razor in the 39c.

As I'm limited to one choice I ticked TTO Adjustable...my Slim. I love my Techs but the Slim scrapes a win on versatility. Haven't tried a TTO open comb yet.
