What's new

So what do you all journal about?

I've been starting to write as often as I can in a journal. I struggle at times as to what to write. Do I write for me only? Do I write for others to read (later in life)? Should I keep is censored or let it all out? :blushing: Just curious what you guys that journal are writing about.

Frankly.. this IS my journal.. what I learn I share.

Does this mean I need to get a life outside of soaps and fragrance?! :w00t:

nope.. I don't.. I am to happy with what I do.. lol :thumbup1:

I find I have a few observations about leadership, and the lack thereof.

The nature of organizations in general, their shortcomings and such.

Just random thoughts, really, that I flesh out while writing. I find that starting off with a general thought rapidly becomes a short essay. The writing process seems to help me think things through. Its almost like bouncing ideas off of someone else, but without the fear of judgment. As I write, I find that I can develop thoughts more completely and gain a good amount of perspective. Why, I don't know. But that's the way it is for me.

I write a journal for my daughter sort of chronicling her life from my perspective (she's only one-and-a-half now) and will give it to her one day...maybe once she gets married? Not sure. :001_smile

I've just started my 4th journal. At first I didn't really expect to keep it up but its something I've enjoyed.I mainly write about what I've done in my day and just ramble on really. It soon fills the page.I've got two sons (8 and 10) and I think they will enjoy reading these when I'm long gone as its a history of our family's life. This year though I plan to include more of whats going on in the world as well as my own thoughts.Keep it up, you will soon find yourself enjoying and looking forward to what you write.:thumbup1:

Decide what you want the journal to accomplish. Write for yourself, or for someone else. I write for myself, exploring my thoughts, feelings, etc. It helps me in self knowledge and awareness. Also it helps me to understand others as well. Make it your own, stick to it. Welcome to journaling.

Thanks for all the good information. I can see there may be some benefit to keeping two journals. I really like the idea of journaling about kids, home, events, etc. that becomes an heirloom type thing. There is also the side of me that IS looking for the therapeutic nature of writing feelings, thoughts and other more private issues that hopefully no-one will need to look at. Anyone else have a couple of different journals going?

A lof of my journal is a reflection of what happended to me that day. It also has some stories, poems and ideas I have written, or half written, with the odd poorly drawn sketch thrown in for good measure. Kind of like a stream of consciousness thing.

I am sure whomever reads them in the future will not be shocked when they get to the part describing buying a "psycho" DE razor.

I have a couple of journals going - in the same notebook. I picked up a MiquelRius 4 subject notebook today at Target. It takes fountain pen ink nicely. There are four sections with different colors. I plan on using it for tasting notes of wines/beers/spirits and some ideas for my blog.

I've spent a decent amount of time living in Germany and Scotland and kept a journal on both occasions. I consider them a great, sentimental treasure.

I also had one going for a while in college that I wrote primarily in German. It's no holds barred in that one. I figured if anyone could read it, well...they earned it.

Also, last year as a Christmas gift to my wife, I wrote a journal to/for my wife. It began with the meeting of one of my best friends and the misadventures we had together in college. The connection being that he set us up on a blind date. From there, it chronicled the next five years of our lives together. It too is something very special.

I'd encourage anytime to take the time to write down their thoughts. It's a powerful thing.

Do any of you use an online blog, such as blogspot.com, to capture your journals. I have not dared to do so myself, but there are some thoughts I wish I had captured in some form, where hosting online would be convenient.

I do and like it once I got used to the awful Blogger text editor. It was pretty easy to set up and get rolling right away. Mine's beverage-related (wines, spirits, cocktails, sodas). It's at mattsmiscellany.blogspot.com.

I tried blogging a while back and totally failed at it. My problem is, I am interested in everything, so I have a hard time focusing on anything. My blog was therefore very scattered, so it had no discernable direction.

See for yourself. The stuff is old, because I gave up on it. http://tcuthbertson.com

I agree with Tim. Even my journal is very disjointed as of now. I have too many hobbies, I work on different things all the time at work and I have 4 kids ranging from 7-19 so I at any one point in time I could have a lot to write about! My hands get sore thinking about it! :)

I just write about my day-to-day life in my journal. I usually finish the previous day's entry the following morning and then start the current day's entry. I start the new entry with how my boys slept the previous night (they are 2.5 and 1 years old so it cahnges pretty regularly). I just started my third journal a few days ago. I started when my second son was born a year ago. It has been a rough year, but journaling has kept me sane and from doing some VERY stupid things.
