What's new

So, I have given up on brushes.

I have a few nice brushes and I enjoyed using them for years. Then one day I got into a hurry and just lathered some cream with my hands. It worked pretty well! After that I find myself using my hands for my weekday shaves just to save time and using a brush on the weekend.

Well, time past and then I found myself using my hands on the weekend too. It works just as well when you get good at it and it is WAY faster.

I don't know what to say guys..... I'm sure this is some kind of sin but it works great and I shave in like 5 min. It's just a Micromatic and a tube of Arko Regular and I'm good to go.

So go ahead and give it to me. I'm sure I need some shaming here. Perhaps you all can guilt me into knocking the dust off my SOC for a Sunday shave or something, lol.

There was some guy here promoting some kind of towel for lathering... I wasn't a believer but he sold a whole kit and everything... To each their own... When I shower shave its cremo or kiss my face cream straight from tube to face... U are not alone.... But I do like brush lather too!

Oh I love brush lather.... I just takes time. Then the brush needs to be rinsed out and all. It's fun but I guess I just have gotten to the point that shaving is just shaving again. I just use a cooler old razor now and decent cream.

Cool. Hey, if it works and you get a good shave, no problems. I enjoy the brush, and more importantly also enjoy using hard soaps, so this won't be an option for me unless I am in a pinch.

Is the lather quality still on par with brush lather, or is it different (thinner/denser etc)? Do you end up using more product?

You may be talking about method shaving.
I have been stuck on travel with no brush and only Tabac soap in a bowl. I ended up using a face towel instead of the brush during the whole trip - the lather was every bit as good as lather from a brush and I kind of enjoyed the experience.

If I gave up brushes I would save about 1:30. If time is a factor it could fun to practice ways to speed the process up. I'm a efficiency machine.

No, the lather is not as thick. It is just as slick or even slicker. Yes I do use more product though. I use a dime sized glob for each pass and rinse my hands after lathering up so I can hold the razor. It only takes like 5 seconds to get the lather up enough to hit the face with it. It looks really thin but works just fine.

Before I got a brush I shaved with creams like this for years. Works fine.

I could never imagine giving up brushes. I mean, how are you supposed to lather soap?

My soap just sits on the shelf right now. I just shave and get on with my day. I used to look forward to it but now I just get it done and go on. Heck, I shaved with just water one morning for a quick one pass just because I was in a hurry. I have pretty solid technique so maybe the lather isn't as big a deal as I once thought.

I think for me I like the learning part of hobbies and tasks. Once I get good at them I move on to another. I may still do them but they just lose their charm. The smooth face is what I'm after now instead of the experience. Maybe I just need to bust out the brush and re-examine why I loved it in the first place. Maybe I'm just in a rut with this....

Yah, I've even just dry shaved cause it was just something that needed doing, it was in the field, and I didn't want to get any colder by stepping wet on my face. Who cared if my face was raw when I was done, it just needed doing.

Glad I don't have to live like that anymore, that I can take 10-15 minutes to focus on something pleasant to start my day.

to each their own, but I'm not cutting any of the luxury out of this process. I shaved badly, and quickly for plenty long enough. That's me.

You had me in the whatever floats your boat category until you said you use Arco Regular. My toothpaste lathers nicer!

The brush is where it's at. I spent 2 years shaving with a cart, a badger brush, and decent soap. The brush prepares the skin, softens the whiskers, and makes the lather. If you want a BBS shave, you can't lose the brush.
Yes, I occasionally skip the brush because I know I can get a CCS w/o it, but never more than once a week.
I would rather give up my DE than my brush.

Me and you both, Doc. I LOVE brushing lather on my face. It is easily the favorite part of my shave.

But to the OP, if you like hand lathering then go for it! I don't consider speed an issue for my shaves (I'm lucky that way, I guess) but if you are in a hurry, and hand lathering works for you, then it shouldn't bother anyone else.

Hey, I'm with you on liking a brush less shave at times.
It's simple, and for me the shaves are just as good and do save time......
Whatever works for you by all means do it.
It's still wet shaving coz we ARE using water......
