What's new

So am I getting more skilled, or lucky?

Have been using my DE for a couple of months now, have a decent collection of blades from Derby, Astra, Personna, Merkur, Shark etc.

Untill very recently always did a 3 pass shave, WTG, then 2 XTG switching directions and have great results. Now it seems that for the most part, I am getting very good results with only 2 passes. The last 2 shaves have been with a razor on its 5th & 6th days.

Any thoughts?

You know, I only do 2-pass shaves: North->South and South->North. It works just fine for me. I'm not struggling for BBS, I look great, my skin doesn't feel scraped and the shaves take less time.
I don't think the 3-pass shave is for everyone. It seems like overkill to me.

I love to hear that someone is improving technique. It took me longer.

I agree. It's yet another of the YMMV things in shaving. I do a 2-pass shave. I go north->south for a first pass. This is either WTG or XTG depending on the part of the face. Then for a second pass I'll either do a east->west (which is also *** or XTG) for a quick DFS, or ATG everywhere if I'm going for a BBS shave.

Any thoughts? Yeah. Everyone's beard is different. A high school kid with peach fuzz can do fine with one pass. On the other extreme some beards require a 4 pass shave.
