What's new

Smoother than GC .68 ?

What in your experience is smoother than the GC .68 but similar mildness? I like the GC but call me greedy. Overlander, perhaps? I didn't care for the current gen Henson mild or medium, though

It is the old buy and try path. Lots of choices out there and mentioned in numerous threads here. Research, make a list, check it twice, buy and try...
I could list one but most of them are here (many threads again on this) for your viewing and future shaving pleasure...
We all have different faces, stubble, density, and technique (or still evolving) ....
Remember if you like the 68, there is the 76 and 84 ...just buy the base plate..

I always think that trying a different blade is better than buying a new razor. I went from a 34G to GC.68, but didn't like the balance of the longer handle until I bought the GC optional shorter handle. When I went to shaving once a week, I got the GC .76. Along the way I went from Astra SP to IP Red, to various Gillette blades. I'm currently using a Gillette Platinum (aka Swedes upc 6989) and tossing after each shave.

The Timeless .68 is smoother than the Game Changer .68 IMHO. I would say the Karve Overlander is as smooth but not smoother, but it is more efficient IMHO. If I could have only one of those three it would be the Overlander.

Henson mild is similar to the GC 68p. If you want a step up in efficiency and still smooth, go for the Overlander or Henson medium.

Agree about then Henson Mild but I didn't like the Henson Medium, seemingly a bad combo of medium aggression and aluminum = bad combo given the light weight and need to fight the urge to apply any excess pressure

Smoothness being wholly subjective, my money would be on trying a different blade and/or learning how to better drive your razor. A lighter handle would certainly help as well.

If you don't like the Henson razors here is my vote in order, because Henson would be on my list. What don't you like about the enhanced edition mild and medium Henson? This could change my list based on the why.

#1 Karve Overlander - Extremely smooth and deceptively efficient. You can get BBS in two passes plus minimal touchup. I rank this the #1 razor for ATG pass. Very precisely machined, zero movement between base plate a top cap. Exceptional blade clamping. Offerings in many types of metal and an absolutely gorgeous razor IMO. This razor is hard to beat and one of my most used razors.

#1 - TRC Stainless Steel - Also in the #1 position, just slightly different than the Karve Overlander. This razor is SUPER smooth and over-shaving is almost impossible. You can get BBS in 2 passes plus minor touchup. This razor is deceptively efficient and very precisely machined with ZERO movement between base plate and top cap with exceptional blade clamping. IMO this is an S tier shaver with the machining of a premium razor being sold for $80. Unbelievable really. I have only recently purchased this razor and about 5 shaves in. This may become one of my most used razors along with my Overlander and Hensons. If you want a good daily driver or auto pilot razor in stainless steel, this is the best value you are going to get. Low price and Elite quality.

#2 - Rockwell 6c/s - Amazing smooth shave, but this razor falls short with machining/casting tolerances IMO. There is considerable movement between plate and top cap. It has good blade clamping but not exceptional as the two above. ALL PLATES give a smooth shave, which is the beauty of this razor. Plate R3 is great as others have stated. I do think this razor gives a better shave than a lot of premium razors. Also a negative of this razor is the exposed blade tabs...what were you thinking Rockwell? Close the blade tabs already!

#3 - Mamba 70 - Great mild razor and relatively efficient. Great materials and good machining, it's RazoRock man! Good blade clamping. Gives BBS but requires a little work. It's a great value at $65
